Berrechid
Introduction
Berrechid is a city and municipality in Berrechid Province, within Morocco's Casablanca-Settat region. It sits in the country's northwest, roughly 32 kilometres south of Casablanca, which makes it an easy stop for travellers moving between the coast and the interior.
The city's position puts several other places within reach: Settat lies about 34 kilometres away, Ben Ahmed about 39 kilometres, El Jadida about 90 kilometres, and Marrakesh about 196 kilometres to the south. Use Berrechid as a base for exploring the Casablanca-Settat region, or as a convenient halt on the road south.
Getting around
Berrechid sits on Morocco's main rail corridor just south of Casablanca, so trains handle the long journeys and you cover the last stretch into town by taxi or on foot. ONCF, the national railway, serves the city; from Marrakesh, trains run roughly hourly and take a little over two hours, with second- and first-class seating (second class is the cheaper, budget option). Service is frequent enough that you can generally turn up and catch the next departure rather than planning far ahead. Check schedules on oncf-voyages.ma or by phone on 2255 before you travel, since timings can change.
Coach travel to Berrechid usually involves a transfer: CTM runs buses from Essaouira to Maarifa, near Berrechid, twice daily, and Supratours connects Essaouira to Marrakesh several times a day, from where you continue by rail. There is no direct bus between Essaouira and Berrechid itself, so a combined bus-and-train route is the practical alternative. Within the city, taxis are the choice for station transfers and for parts of town that are less walkable; agree on the fare before departure, or confirm the meter is running where applicable, and keep small change handy. Ride-hailing apps are not documented for Berrechid, so plan on traditional taxis. The centre is compact and walking is a reasonable way to reach local shops and nearby amenities, though a taxi is more comfortable for longer distances or when carrying luggage; stick to busy, well-lit streets and ask your accommodation which areas are best explored on foot.
Three days in Berrechid
Day one: Use Berrechid as your base and get your bearings in the town itself, checking the ONCF service and coach options from the station area so the rest of your trip runs smoothly. Within Berrechid Province, the town sits in Morocco's Chaouia plain, and it makes a practical starting point for exploring the wider region.
Day two: Check the CTM and Supratours services and ride out to Casablanca for the day, or head south to Settat, both reachable from Berrechid. If you prefer a slower pace, stay local and use the town as a springboard for the surrounding province.
Day three: Use the ONCF network for a longer excursion — El Jadida and Essaouira lie to the west, while Marrakesh, Ben Ahmed and Maarifa can be reached by road or rail. Check timings before you set out, and return to Berrechid in the evening.
