Ksar El Kebir
Introduction
Ksar el-Kebir — also written al-Qasr al-Kabir, and known in Spanish as Alcazarquivir — is a city in northwestern Morocco. It sits inland in the country's north, roughly 32 kilometres east of Larache, about 110 kilometres south of Tangier and some 160 kilometres north of Rabat, which makes it a plausible stop for travellers moving between those cities rather than a destination in its own right.
Treat this page as a starting point, and expect to fill in the detail from other sources before you plan a stay.
Three days in Ksar El Kebir
Day one: Settle into Ksar El Kebir, known in Spanish as Alcazarquivir, and take your time getting oriented in the town centre. Use the first day to adjust to the pace of life in this part of Morocco and to plan the rest of your stay.
Day two: Give the day to the town itself, wandering its streets and watching everyday life unfold. Ksar El Kebir rewards slow exploration rather than rushing between sights.
Day three: Use the town as a base for the wider region. Larache, Tangier and Rabat lie within reach for a longer excursion, and the Rif landscapes beyond the town are worth the journey.
