Getting there

You can reach this destination via the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen, which terminates at Takeo Onsen Station. From Nagasaki, you can take the Shinkansen for the fastest journey to the station. If you are traveling from Hakata Station, you can currently utilize Limited Express Trains as the quickest method of transport.

Alternatively, you can reach the area by taking Limited Express Trains from Sasebo. The town is situated west of Saga City and east of Sasebo.

Getting around

You can navigate the area by taking buses that run from Takeoonsen Station, as the town is not entirely walkable.

Where to stay

You can choose between modern convenience and traditional charm depending on your preference for the local atmosphere. For a practical stay, you can find a standard business hotel located right beside Takeo Station.

Alternatively, you can experience the historic character of the area by staying at a ryokan within the Takeo Onsen district.

Food & drink

Savor local flavors by visiting Gyoza Kaikan near Takeo Station, where you can experience a lively atmosphere while enjoying popular gyoza and ramen. For a unique culinary experience, visit Saga Hirakawaya across from Takeo Onsen to try Onsen Yudofu. This tofu dish is prepared using local hot springs, giving it a distinct taste compared to standard tofu stew; if the main dishes seem too substantial, you can opt for their ice cream instead.

Explore the area west of the station to find a street lined with bars and nightclubs. You can also find an American hamburger restaurant in this vicinity.

What to see and do

Explore the spiritual and natural landmarks of the area, starting with Takeo Shrine where you can witness the Great Camphor Tree. This sacred tree is known as a "power spot" that must be seen to be believed. For a different kind of scenery, visit Mifuneyama Rakuen Garden, an expansive garden situated below Mount Mifune. If you are looking for educational entertainment, the Saga Prefecture Science and Space Museum offers science fun for the whole family.

Three days in Takeo

Day one, you travel from Nagasaki via the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen to reach Takeo Onsen Station. After arriving at your destination, you can relax in the local area and savor a bowl of Onsen Yudofu.

Day two, you explore the spiritual side of the region by visiting the Takeo Shrine to see the Great Camphor Tree. You can also spend time at the Takeo City Library or visit the Saga Prefecture Science and Space Museum.

Day three, you travel toward Sasebo or Saga City. Before your departure, you can enjoy a meal at Gyoza Kaikan or Saga Hirakawaya, or find some peace in the Mifuneyama Rakuen Garden near Mount Mifune.
