Soka
Introduction
Sōka is a city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It is a compact city, with a total area of under 30 square kilometres, and it is densely settled, so you can expect an urban feel rather than open countryside as you move around.
When to go
Sōka has a humid subtropical climate, so plan around warm, sticky summers and cool, mostly dry winters. Summer is at its hottest and most humid in August, when the heat and moisture peak — expect the year's stickiest conditions if you visit then. Winter is cool rather than cold, with January the coldest month on average; snow is light to nonexistent, so the season tends to be dry and clear instead of snowy.
September stands out as the wettest month of the year. If your trip falls then, be prepared for heavy rain and pack accordingly.
Three days in Soka
Day one: Start in Sōka, in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It is a good base for seeing the wider area, and in summer, especially August, the weather is warm and humid, so plan your walking for the cooler parts of the day. In winter, particularly January, it is bitterly cold, so wrap up well if you are out and about.
Day two: Use Sōka as your starting point again and take your time exploring the town at an easy pace. September can still be warm, so carry water and take breaks. If you want a quieter experience, visit outside the peak summer months.
Day three: Spend your final day in Sōka before moving on. If you have time, revisit the parts of the town you liked best. Check the weather before you set out, as summer and winter conditions differ greatly.
