Sayama
Introduction
Sayama is a city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It sits within a modest area of roughly 45 square kilometres, and its population is spread across tens of thousands of households, giving it a fairly settled, residential feel.
When to go
Sayama has a humid subtropical climate, so the seasons shape what you pack and how you plan your days. Summers are warm and humid, with temperatures peaking on average in August. Expect muggy conditions and rain that can be heavy at times, so bring light clothing and keep an umbrella with you.
Winters are cool, with January the coldest month on average, though snowfall is light to nonexistent and snow rarely settles, so travel is generally unaffected — you will still want a warm coat. Rain falls throughout the year, and September is the wettest month, bringing the heaviest rainfall. If you visit then, plan for wet conditions with indoor options or proper rain gear.
Three days in Sayama
Day one: Start in Sayama, in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It is a good base for your first look at the area. Expect warm and humid weather if you visit in the summer, especially in August. Winters are bitterly cold, particularly in January, so pack accordingly. Rain is common in September, so keep that in mind when you plan your time outdoors.
Day two: Use Sayama as your starting point again and take your time. If the weather turns wet, as it often does in September, adjust your plans and save the drier hours for being outside. In August, the heat and humidity mean you should pace yourself and rest often.
Day three: Spend your last day in Sayama before you leave Saitama Prefecture. Check the forecast, since rain in September can change what you are able to do. If you are travelling in January, expect the cold to shape your day from the start.
