Saveh

Introduction

Saveh is a city in the Central District of Saveh County, in Markazi province, Iran. It serves as the capital of both the county and the district, and sits about 120 km (70 mi) southwest of Tehran.

When to go

Saveh has a hot semi-arid climate, so the season you choose shapes everything about your trip. Summers are very hot and dry, with little to no rain, and the heat is intense enough that you should plan outdoor activities around it rather than through the middle of the day.

Winters are cool to cold and somewhat rainy. Rain is more likely than in summer, and the chill makes warm clothing advisable if you visit during this season.

Three days in Saveh

Day one: Base yourself in Saveh, the city at the heart of the Central District of Saveh County in Markazi province, Iran. Spend your first hours getting oriented on foot, since the city itself is the main draw and its streets reward an unhurried look. Saveh sits within reach of Tehran, so it works as a starting point for exploring this part of the country rather than a place to rush through.

Day two: Give the day to Saveh proper. Walk its central quarters and take in the everyday life of the city, pausing where the streets open out and where they narrow. Summers here are hot, so plan your walking for the cooler parts of the day, and keep in mind that winters turn bitterly cold. Rain is limited, but when it comes it changes the feel of the streets.

Day three: Use Saveh as your anchor for a final look at the Central District and the wider Saveh County before you move on. If you are continuing to Tehran, allow time for the journey, and if you are staying, spend the hours on the parts of the city you passed by earlier. Either way, let the pace of Markazi province set the rhythm of your last day.
