Golestan

Introduction

Golestan is a city in Tehran province, Iran, and serves as the capital of Golestan District in Baharestan County. Alongside Nasimshahr, it is one of the two capitals of the county.

The city began as the village of Soltanabad and was converted into the city of Golestan in 1996, making it a relatively recent urban settlement within the province.

Three days in Golestan

Day one: Base yourself in Golestan and get your bearings in the Golestan District, which sits within Baharestan County. Take the day at an easy pace, walking the neighbourhood streets and getting a feel for how the district connects to the wider city.

Day two: Head out towards Soltanabad, which lies alongside Nasimshahr, and spend the day exploring this part of the wider area. The journey out and back gives you a sense of how Golestan sits in relation to its neighbours.

Day three: Use your final day to return to the parts of Golestan and the Golestan District you want to see again, or to make the trip into Tehran if you are continuing your travels. If you are heading back to Iran's capital, allow time for the journey and plan your onward connections before you leave.
