Sehore

Introduction

Sehore is a city and municipal centre in Madhya Pradesh, and the headquarters of its own district. It sits on the Bhopal–Sehore–Indore highway, roughly 38 km from Bhopal, which makes it an easy stop for travellers moving through this part of central India.

Use the city as a base for the surrounding district rather than as a destination in itself: its position on the highway puts Bhopal within short reach while keeping you in a smaller, quieter municipal town.

Getting around

Sehore is compact, and its temples, shrines, mosques and churches are clustered in the centre, so walking is the easiest way to cover the sights and take in the town's long history of communal coexistence. Outside the historic core, distances open up and the highway environment is not designed for pedestrians, so switch to a hired vehicle for anything on the Bhopal–Indore road or beyond the town limits.

Sehore railway station, on the Ujjain–Sehore–Bhopal branch line, anchors long-distance travel, with direct services to major cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Nagpur, Jammu and Puri; because it is a smaller station on a branch line, book onward and return journeys in advance. Buses are the mainstay of road travel, boarding at the Bus Stand, with private operators running intercity services and departures clustering late in the evening; boarding points also include Crescent Water Park on the Sehore bypass and Crescent Resort, so confirm your pickup point before setting out. There is no metro or tram. For local trips, auto-rickshaws and taxis are arranged at the railway station, the bus stand or through your hotel — ride-hailing apps are far more established in Bhopal than here, so do not count on app-based pickups. For day trips around the district, hiring a vehicle for the day is the most flexible approach; agree the fare and itinerary in advance. Sehore has no airport of its own: Bhopal is the gateway, reached onward by road along the Bhopal–Sehore–Indore highway or by train.

Three days in Sehore

Day one: Start in Sehore itself, getting your bearings in this Madhya Pradesh town before heading out. Buses from the Bus Stand connect you onward, and Bhopal and Indore are the obvious larger cities to keep in mind as you plan. Use the day to settle in and see the town at an easy pace.

Day two: Give the day to Crescent Water Park, the town's main draw for families and anyone wanting to cool off. Crescent Resort is there if you prefer to stay close to the park rather than in the centre. It makes a straightforward, unhurried day out.

Day three: Take a bus from the Bus Stand and use Sehore as a base for wider Madhya Pradesh travel. Ujjain is within reach, and longer routes run toward Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Nagpur, Jammu and Puri if you are continuing across India. Outside the town, the countryside is the main scenery; there is no need to rush the return.
