Chhindwara

Introduction

Chhindwara is a city and municipal corporation in Madhya Pradesh, and the administrative headquarters of Chhindwara District. You can reach it by rail or road from the neighbouring cities of Betul, Jabalpur and Nagpur. The nearest airport is in Nagpur; a small airport in the district exists but is not serviceable for passenger planes.

Getting around

Chhindwara has no metro or tram, so you'll get around by road: buses, auto-rickshaws, taxis and shared cabs, with walking saved for short hops. The usual pattern is to arrive by train or bus from a major hub, then switch to an auto-rickshaw or taxi for the last leg into town and for trips across the city. Because the city is compact and its commercial life clusters in a few well-known areas, you can often pair a short walk with a short auto ride rather than depending on one mode for every trip.

Three days in Chhindwara

Day one: Arrive in Chhindwara, the district headquarters of Chhindwara District in Madhya Pradesh, and settle into the rhythm of the town. Begin with a walk through the central markets, where Mansarover Complex, Fawwara Chowk, Gole Gunj and Gandhi Gunj give you a feel for everyday life and local shopping. Because the town is compact, walking between these areas is the best way to get your bearings, and auto fares are easy to arrange for longer hops.

Day two: Use Chhindwara as your base for exploring the wider district. Buses and the rail network connect the town with places such as Parasia and Junnardeo, and Chhindwara Junction links you onward to Betul, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Indore, Amla and Bhopal. The Chhindwara Passenger is a useful service for a slower, closer look at the surrounding countryside. Plan your return before evening so you have time to enjoy the town's markets again.

Day three: Spend your final day at an easy pace, revisiting the parts of Chhindwara you enjoyed most and picking up anything you missed. If you are flying out, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport at Nagpur is the nearest major airport, and Nagpur Road is the route toward it. Check bus and rail timings from Chhindwara Junction in advance, and use the app for auto fares so your departure is smooth.
