Mothihari
Getting around
Within Motihari itself, you can get around by local bus, auto-rickshaw, cycle-rickshaw or on foot. The centre is compact enough that many day-to-day movements are walkable, particularly around the bus stands and market areas. For longer hops across town, auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are the usual choice — agree on the fare before you set off, as metered service is not the norm. Outside the core, roads can be busy and pavements inconsistent, so take care and consider a rickshaw for longer or less familiar routes. App-based ride-hailing is limited here compared with larger Indian cities; if you need a taxi, arrange it through your accommodation or a local operator and confirm the fare upfront.
Public transport in and around the city is centred on buses, with the Bus Stand, Chhatauni Bus Stand and Govt. Bus Stand acting as the main hubs for both intercity and local services; BSRTC is one of the operators serving the region. Motihari also has a railway station on the national network, with no metro or tram system, so book rail tickets in advance through the official Indian Railways channels, especially for overnight or long-distance journeys. If you are flying in, note that Motihari has no commercial airport of its own — you will typically arrive at a larger regional or national airport and continue by train or long-distance bus, for example taking a direct daily bus from Delhi boarding points such as Akshardham Metro Station, Anand Vihar, Chilla Border or ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Book ahead and allow time to reach your boarding point well before departure.
Three days in Mothihari
Day one: Start in Motihari itself, getting your bearings around the town before heading out. For longer excursions, the public bus stand and Chhatauni Bus Stand are your departure points, and the government BSRTC buses serve routes around the area. Keep your first day simple and use it to settle into the pace of the town.
Day two: Take a day trip using the bus connections from Motihari. If you are travelling onward to Delhi, Indian Railways trains are an option, and buses also run towards the capital. Plan your return so you are back in Motihari by evening.
Day three: Use your last day to revisit anything you missed in Motihari and sort out your onward travel. The Book app can help with reservations, and the public bus stand and Chhatauni Bus Stand are where you will catch your departure. Allow time to reach the stand before your bus leaves.
