Jahanabad
Introduction
Jehanabad is a town and municipal council in the Indian state of Bihar, and it serves as the administrative headquarters of Jehanabad district. The district was separated from Gaya and became a district on August 1, 1986, so the town's identity as a seat of local government is a relatively recent one.
Jehanabad lies on the Patna–Gaya corridor and is connected by both road and rail. Jehanabad railway station serves the town, with regular connectivity to Patna, Gaya and other cities, making it a practical stop for travellers moving between those two centres.
Getting around
Jahanabad has no metro or tram, so getting around depends on rail, road and locally arranged vehicles. Jehanabad Railway Station, on the Patna–Gaya line, is the main station, with frequent passenger and express trains to Patna, Gaya, Ranchi and other destinations; smaller stations such as Jehanabad Court, Makhdumpur–Gaya and Tehta may be closer to your destination. State and private buses link the town with Patna, Gaya and Biharsharif, and local and shared buses connect parts of town with neighbouring villages. Fares vary by operator and class of service, so confirm before boarding.
For short hops within town, auto rickshaws, taxis and private cabs are the main modes of local transport, and some operators run intercity services too. Shared autos and local jeeps are the budget option for short distances. Hiring a car suits covering several sites in a single day, but do not count on ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Ola for local trips — arrange an auto, shared auto or local cab instead, though app-based outstation bookings from Patna may be possible for the inbound leg. Walking works for brief stretches only, since in-town roads are shared with buses, autos and private vehicles. If you fly in, Patna is the natural gateway, with the train generally the simplest and cheapest onward option and frequent buses or a hired taxi as alternatives; from Gaya the same rail and bus options apply.
Three days in Jahanabad
Day one: Start in Jahanabad itself, getting your bearings on foot through the town before the heat builds. Jehanabad Railway Station is the natural orientation point, with connections onward to Gaya, Patna, Ranchi and Biharsharif if you plan to extend your trip. For getting around, shared vehicles and hiring a car are the usual options; Uber and Ola are not reliable here, so arrange transport in advance. In the evening, eat Indian food at a local spot and keep the pace slow.

- Indian meal at a local eatery
Day two: Head out to Makhdumpur and Tehta, both within reach of Jahanabad, and give yourself time at each rather than rushing between them. Weather in August is warm and humid with rain likely, so carry protection and start early. Return to town for the evening and a simple Indian dinner.

Day three: Use the morning for anything you missed in Jahanabad, including Jehanabad Court if you have business there, then plan your onward travel. Gaya, Patna, Ranchi and Biharsharif are all reachable by rail from Jehanabad Railway Station, so check connections before you set out. If you are continuing in Bihar, Biharsharif makes a straightforward next stop.
