Bagaha
Introduction
Bagaha is a city and municipality in West Champaran district, in the state of Bihar, India. It serves as the headquarters of the Bagaha subdivision and also functions as a police district. The town sits on the banks of the Gandak River, roughly 64 kilometres northwest of the district headquarters, Bettiah, and about 294 kilometres from the state capital, Patna.
Its position makes it a useful base for exploring the surrounding area: Bagaha lies close to the Valmiki Tiger Reserve and to the India–Nepal border.
Three days in Bagaha
Day one: Arrive in Bagaha, a town in West Champaran district in Bihar, India, and get your bearings along the Gandak River. Use the day to settle in and take in the character of this part of Bihar before venturing further afield.
Day two: Head out to Valmiki Tiger Reserve, the area's main natural draw, and spend the day exploring its forest and wildlife. The reserve sits close to the Nepal border, so the landscape here reflects the meeting of the plains and the foothills.
Day three: Travel to Bettiah to see another side of West Champaran, or continue on toward Patna if you are extending your trip across Bihar. Keep the pace easy and leave time to return to Bagaha before you move on.
