Kolar
Introduction
Kolar, also called Kolāra, is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka and the headquarters of Kolar district. It is known for milk production and for its gold mines, and it is also known for the Someshwara and Kolaramma temples.
Three days in Kolar
Day one: Start in Kolar itself, getting your bearings in this Karnataka city before turning to its temples. Begin with the Someshwara temple, then visit the Kolaramma temple, both of which anchor the city's religious heritage. Keep the pace easy and use the rest of the day to settle into the rhythms of Kolāra.
Day two: Give the day to the temples in more depth, returning to Someshwara and Kolaramma to look closely at their architecture and the worship that continues there. Between visits, wander the streets of Kolar and take in everyday life in this part of Karnataka.
Day three: Use your last day to revisit whichever temple drew you most, or to explore more of Kolar at a slower pace. Round off your stay with the local food of Karnataka before you leave.
