Kalol
Getting around
Kalol is not a town with an extensive internal public transport system, so plan on getting around locally on foot or by hired vehicles, and save buses and trains for longer journeys. Before you plan any onward transport, confirm which Kalol you are travelling to, since the name refers to more than one town in Gujarat; the guidance here covers the town in Gandhinagar district, which is the one tied into the Ahmedabad metropolitan transport network.
- For rail travel, use Kalol Junction railway station, which connects the town to the wider Indian Railways network; book tickets online in advance or buy them at the station, and book ahead for longer journeys.
- For the Kalol–Ahmedabad link, rely on buses: AMTS operates a route between Vadaj in Ahmedabad and Kalol Police Chowki Under Bridge, making the bus a practical option between the two.
- Once in Ahmedabad, you can connect into the city's metro, operated by GMRCL, and its BRTS, run by AJL; Kalol itself has no metro or tram system.
- Check bus timings ahead of time, as schedules can change on public holidays such as Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
- App-based ride-hailing is not described for Kalol, so verify locally on arrival and be prepared to arrange hired vehicles through your accommodation or at the station.
- If you arrive by air, the practical route is to land at Ahmedabad's airport and continue by road or rail, using the bus link or a train to Kalol Junction; confirm current airport connections locally before you travel.
Three days in Kalol
Day one: Start in Kalol itself, getting your bearings around the town before heading out. Kalol Junction is the main railhead, served by Indian Railways, and the town sits in Gujarat between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, so it makes a practical base for exploring the wider area. Use the day to settle in and take in the town at an easy pace.
Day two: Head towards Ahmedabad, where the AMTS bus network and the BRTS rapid transit system connect the city's neighbourhoods. Vadaj is one of the areas you can pass through on the way in. Check the timetables before you set out, and plan your return to Kalol for the evening.
Day three: Give the day to Gandhinagar, the state capital, which is within reach of Kalol. GMRCL services link the capital region, so you can move between the two without relying on a car. If your visit falls around Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, expect the day to be marked with local observances, and check schedules in advance.
