Pasarkemis

Introduction

Pasarkemis is an administrative district in Tangerang Regency, part of the province of Banten on the island of Java, Indonesia. Its administrative centre sits at Sukamantri, and the district spreads across roughly thirty square kilometres of the regency.

This is a working district rather than a resort town, so come expecting an everyday Indonesian urban setting in the greater Tangerang area rather than a sightseeing destination.

Getting around

Pasarkemis has no rail or metro station of its own, so getting around is almost entirely road-based. The district is flat and compact, which makes short hops between nearby neighbourhoods manageable on foot, but for anything longer you will rely on a vehicle. Angkot minibuses run fixed routes both within the district and from neighbouring cities; they are the cheapest option, though not always the fastest, and are best treated as a budget choice for short, known journeys rather than a network you can depend on for every trip. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are the most convenient way to move around and to reach the district from elsewhere.

Download Grab and Gojek before you arrive — both are recommended for fixed prices and no bargaining, which removes the haggling that can otherwise slow you down. Carry small-denomination cash in Indonesian rupiah, since cards are accepted only in large stores and cash is essential for markets, warungs and minibuses. Indonesian is the main language and English is not widely spoken, so a translation app or written destination names in Indonesian will help. Buy a local SIM, such as Telkomsel, at the airport so you can use ride-hailing and maps reliably. Check the weather before travelling in the rainy season: the climate is tropical monsoon with high humidity, the rainy season runs November to March with heavy rain, thunderstorms and flooding risk in low-lying areas, and the dry season runs June to September, with July and August the most comfortable stretch.

Three days in Pasarkemis

Day one: Start in Pasarkemis, a town in Tangerang Regency, Banten, on the island of Java, Indonesia. Get your bearings in the town centre, then use angkot or taxis to reach Sukamantri. Download Grab or Gojek to make getting around easier, and carry some English if you need it, though Indonesian will serve you better. Buy a local SIM from Telkomsel so you can check maps and rides as you go.

Day two: Spend the day exploring Pasarkemis and its surroundings in Tangerang Regency. Use angkot for short hops and taxis for longer ones, and keep Grab and Gojek on your phone for backup. This is a good day to slow down, eat Indonesian food, and get a feel for daily life in Banten.

Day three: If your timing allows, plan around the drier months from June through September, or the wetter stretch from November to March. July and August are often the busiest, so book transport early. Check your Telkomsel SIM and your Grab or Gojek app before heading out, and use angkot or taxis for any last trips around Pasarkemis and Sukamantri.
