Ciputat
Introduction
Ciputat is a town and an administrative district in the city of South Tangerang, in Banten Province on the island of Java, Indonesia. It sits within the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area, so it is part of the wider urban sprawl that surrounds the capital rather than a standalone destination.
Getting around
Ciputat has no metro or tram station of its own, and its streets are served mainly by buses and minivans. The practical pattern is to take a local bus or angkot to a rail or metro terminus on the edge of the district, then continue into Jakarta by train or metro. Ride-hailing cars and taxis fill the gaps, especially for short local hops and for reaching stations.
On the fixed-track side, the KRL Commuter Line's Rangkasbitung Line links Rangkasbitung with Tanah Abang, giving Ciputat a direct rail connection toward central Jakarta, while the MRT Jakarta Lebak Bulus–Bundaran HI line serves Lebak Bulus, the practical metro gateway for the district. A future MRT extension from Lebak Bulus to Pamulang is planned. Arrange rail and metro tickets at the station you use. Transjakarta runs direct buses to Jakarta, including routes S21 to Kejaksaan Agung and S22 to Kp Rambutan, plus route 13B between Puri Beta 2 and Pancoran Arah Barat with no transfers required. Buses on that corridor are frequent and the fare is modest; tickets can be booked online, and journey times stretch longer on weekends and holidays.
- The Ciputat bus station on Jl. Raya Ciputat has a 24-hour ticket office, free Wi-Fi, parking, food stalls and small cafes nearby, an ATM, taxis outside, accessible facilities and a WC for a small fee; there are no showers and no car rental. Bus lines 10, 11 and 12 connect there, and angkot routes D01 and D02 stop near the station.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure to sort out ticketing and boarding; the station area is generally safe and reasonably well lit, and suitable for solo travelers.
- Angkot minivans on routes D01 and D02 are the cheapest shared option for short local journeys.
- Keep walking to short local stretches around the bus station, food stalls and cafes; use motorized transport for anything longer.
- For the airport, plan a two-stage journey — airport transport into Jakarta, then the KRL Rangkasbitung Line toward Tanah Abang, the MRT at Lebak Bulus, or a Transjakarta bus onward to Ciputat.
Three days in Ciputat
Day one: Arrive in Ciputat, a district of South Tangerang in Banten Province on the island of Java, Indonesia. It sits within Greater Jakarta, so you can reach it from Jakarta by riding the KRL Commuter Line on the Rangkasbitung Line, or by taking the MRT Jakarta from Lebak Bulus or Bundaran HI. Once you arrive, get your bearings along Jl Raya Ciputat, where you will find Wi Fi, ATMs and WCs, then settle in and adjust to the warm, humid tropical climate.
- Ride the KRL Commuter Line Rangkasbitung Line toward Rangkasbitung via Tanah Abang
- Use MRT Jakarta from Bundaran HI or Lebak Bulus
- Orient yourself on Jl Raya Ciputat
Day two: Arrange a day trip using the Transjakarta bus network. Buses connect Ciputat with points across Greater Jakarta, including Puri Beta, Kejaksaan Agung, Kp Rambutan and Pancoran Arah Barat. For shorter hops around the district, take an angkot. Keep in mind that the KRL Rangkasbitung Line and the MRT are your links back toward Jakarta and Lebak Bulus.
- Transjakarta buses to Puri Beta, Kejaksaan Agung, Kp Rambutan and Pancoran Arah Barat
- Angkot for local trips
- KRL Rangkasbitung Line and MRT for connections
Day three: Use your final day to move between Ciputat and neighbouring Pamulang, both within South Tangerang, and to revisit the transport hubs you have come to rely on. Whether you leave via the KRL Rangkasbitung Line, the MRT at Lebak Bulus, or a Transjakarta bus, plan your departure around the heat and humidity, and allow time for the ride back into Jakarta.
- Pamulang, within South Tangerang
- KRL Rangkasbitung Line, MRT at Lebak Bulus, or Transjakarta for departure
- Allow extra time for the ride into Jakarta
