Cibinong
Introduction
Cibinong is a large town and administrative district in Bogor Regency, West Java, and it serves as the regency's administrative seat. Don't confuse it with the district of the same name in Cianjur Regency. The town sits immediately due south of Depok, which itself lies just south of Jakarta, so Cibinong belongs to the Jakarta Metropolitan Area. It takes its name from the Binong River.
The district's administrative headquarters are in the town of Cirimekar. Beyond that, the source offers little on what to see or do, so treat Cibinong as a base for understanding this part of the Jakarta outskirts rather than a destination with a mapped-out itinerary.
Getting around
Cibinong has no airport, metro, tram or commuter rail station of its own, so getting around means moving by road and plugging into the wider Jakarta–Depok–Bogor network for longer journeys. Within the town, the practical options are the local angkot minibuses, taxis and ride-hailing apps. Angkutan Kota Bogor Route 29 links Terminal Cibinong with Terminal Merdeka, running daily including weekends from early morning until late evening, with departures roughly every ten minutes and a trip of about half an hour. Fares on this route are not fixed by a published schedule and vary, so confirm the fare with the operator or check a transit app before boarding. Terminals such as Terminal Cibinong are the natural interchange points where local minibuses meet longer-distance services.
For door-to-door trips inside Cibinong or to neighbouring Depok and Bogor, taxis and ride-hailing apps are the most flexible choice, and they are especially handy for reaching a rail or bus terminal with luggage or for journeys that do not match an angkot route; ride-hailing also gives you a clear price up front. To leave the area, travel by road to the nearest convenient station and continue on the metropolitan system — commuter trains, MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, LRT Jabodebek and the Transjakarta BRT, alongside bus operators such as KWK, PPD, Mayasari Bakti, KOASI and Angkutan Kota Depok. Because these services are run by several different bodies, tickets and payment methods differ, so buy a ticket or top up a stored-value card at the station where you board and check the operator's rules rather than assuming one card covers everything. Cibinong is a sprawling district town rather than a compact centre, so treat walking as a way to cover short local distances only. Expect to combine modes: a local minibus or car for the first leg, then metropolitan bus or rail for the rest.
Three days in Cibinong
Day one: Start in Cibinong itself, the administrative heart of Bogor Regency in West Java. Wander the streets around the Binong River, which gives the town its name, and get a feel for the everyday rhythm of this part of the Jakarta Metropolitan Area. Use the local angkutan kota network to move between neighbourhoods, and note that Terminal Cibinong is your main hub for onward trips. In the evening, try the street food around the terminal area before turning in.
Day two: Head out to Cirimekar and the surrounding districts to see a quieter side of the regency. If you want a change of scene, Depok is within easy reach, as is the city of Bogor. Buses and angkutan kota connect these places, with operators such as KWK, PPD, Mayasari Bakti and KOASI serving the routes. Expect warm, humid conditions typical of the region, so plan your walking for the cooler hours.
Day three: Push further out towards Cianjur Regency for a taste of the wider West Java landscape, or stay closer and explore more of Bogor. For longer hops, the MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta and LRT Jabodebek, along with Transjakarta BRT, link the metropolitan area, while Terminal Merdeka and Angkutan Kota Bogor Route services cover local connections. Fares vary by operator and distance, so keep small change handy. Because the region is well connected, you can shape the day around however far you feel like going.
