Fanling

Introduction

Fanling is a town in the New Territories East of Hong Kong, and administratively it forms part of the North District. Fanling Town is the main settlement of the Fanling area, and the name itself is a shortened form of Fan Pik Leng. The area contains several public and private estates.

Three days in Fanling

Day one: Base yourself in Fanling Town, the commercial heart of Fanling in Hong Kong's North District, and use it as your orientation point for the New Territories East. Fanling itself is your starting ground, so spend the first day getting your bearings on foot, learning how the town connects to the wider North District before you range further out.

Day two: Head for Fan Pik Leng, the area within Fanling that gives you a change of scene from the town centre. Treat the day as a slower one, moving between the town and this part of Fanling rather than trying to cover the whole of the New Territories East in a single push.

Day three: Keep your final day close to Fanling and Fanling Town, revisiting whatever suited you best and filling the gaps you left earlier. If you still have energy, use the time to understand how Fanling sits within the North District and the wider New Territories East before you leave Hong Kong.
