Tsing Yi Town

Introduction

Tsing Yi Town sits on the eastern coast of Tsing Yi Island in Hong Kong, and it forms part of the Tsuen Wan New Town. If you are basing yourself in this part of the territory, expect a settled urban area shaped by its waterfront position rather than a resort-style destination.

Three days in Tsing Yi Town

Day one: Start by getting your bearings in Tsing Yi Town, the settlement at the heart of Tsing Yi Island. Wander the streets to see how everyday life plays out here, then follow the waterfront for views back across to Hong Kong and over to Tsuen Wan New Town on the mainland shore. As evening comes, find a place to eat in town and take in the harbour lights.

Day two: Give the island more of your time. Move between the town and the quieter edges of Tsing Yi Island, where the built-up streets give way to open views of the water and the ships moving through it. Keep Tsuen Wan New Town in sight across the channel as a reference point for how the two sides of the harbour relate to each other.

Day three: Use your last day to slow down. Revisit the parts of Tsing Yi Town you liked most, and spend a final stretch by the water watching the traffic between Tsing Yi Island, Hong Kong and Tsuen Wan New Town before you move on.
