Obuase
Getting around
Obuase has no metro, tram or passenger rail network, so plan on getting around on foot, by shared taxi, or by the minibuses and buses that connect the town to the wider region. Long-distance buses are the main way in from outside the Ashanti Region, including services from Accra; buy tickets in advance where you can, confirm the departure point when you book, and aim to arrive in daylight. Within town, public transport means the shared minibuses and taxis common across Ghanaian towns rather than a formal city bus network with published routes or passes — there is no citywide travel pass, so you pay per trip. Ask at your accommodation or the bus terminal which shared vehicles serve your destination, since local routes are not formally signposted for visitors.
Taxis are the most flexible option for moving around Obuase and for the last stretch of a journey into town. Ride-hailing apps are not described here, so expect to hail a taxi, pick one up at a terminal or landmark, or ask your hotel to call one. Agree the fare before you set off, as metered pricing is not something to count on, and use well-known landmarks such as AGA Hospital or Len Clay Stadium to orient your driver if you are unsure of street names. For longer trips, including onward travel to Kumasi or the airport, arrange the taxi or vehicle in advance through your accommodation. Central Obuase is compact enough to cover on foot, particularly around the town centre, the hospital and the stadium, with shops — including traditional handicraft shops — and restaurants serving traditional Ghanaian cuisine to explore along the way. Walk in daylight, stick to busy routes, and ask locally which areas are comfortable to walk through.
Three days in Obuase
Day one: Start in Central Obuase, where you can walk the streets and get your bearings in the town. Ask around for the Ghanaian food stalls and take your time settling in. If you have energy left, head to Len Clay Stadium and watch whatever is being played or practised there.

Day two: Ride out to AGA Hospital if you need to, or simply use the day to explore more of Obuase and its surroundings. Taxis are the practical way to get around, so agree on your fare before you set off. In the evening, return to Central Obuase and eat where the Ghanaian cooks are busy.

Day three: Take a longer trip to Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, and see how the city compares with Obuase. If you would rather stay closer, spend the day within Obuase and along the road to Long. From Accra, many travellers pass through this part of Ghana, so ask locally about the best way onward when your three days are done.
