Teshi Old Town
Getting around
Teshi Old Town is a locality within Teshie, a dense, built-up coastal district of Accra rather than a separate town, so you move around it the way you would anywhere in the wider city. Public transit here is bus-only — there is no metro, rail or tram — and your realistic options are buses, taxis, ride-hailing and walking. Several routes serve the Teshie area, including 118 (Teshie–Nungua), 23 (Teshie Nungua), 424 (Odorna), 425 (Circle Odorna) and 469 (Nungua Authority); if you are heading to or from Teshie Lascala, routes 118, 424 and 469 stop nearby. Buses run from early morning until late in the evening, but there is no single central ticket office for visitors, so check routes and fares on a transit app or ask locally rather than assuming a fixed fare. Some journeys need a transfer: coming from Tema, for example, you take line 998 (Ashaiman to Equip) and then line 425 (Equip to Addoemi), as there is no direct bus on that corridor.
Knowing the named stops makes navigation much easier. The Addoemi stop is about a two-minute walk from the Teshie Lascala area, while the Kofi Annan stop is roughly ten minutes away on foot. Other landmarks and stops you may hear called out include Teshie T' Junction, Asesewa Market Area, Teshie Mobil, Teshie St. John Senior High & Junior High School, St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, Family Health Hospital, Teshie Military Camp Residence, First Junction Taxi Rank and Lighthouse Chapel International — naming one of these to the conductor or driver is often the simplest way to say where you want to get off. Taxis fill the gaps the buses leave and are the fastest way to cover a short-to-medium trip, and ride-hailing apps are widely used in Accra and save you negotiating a fare on the street. Walking works well for short hops between stops and landmarks, but treat it as your tool for the last few hundred metres rather than for crossing the city. For longer trips, weigh a taxi against the bus: taxis are quicker and more direct but cost considerably more.
