Archway
Getting around
Archway sits within London, so you get around using the city's wider public transport network rather than a separate local system. Your local starting point is Archway tube station, on the London Underground — commonly called the "Tube" — which links the area to the rest of the city. For longer or cross-city journeys, you can combine the Tube with London's rail services and, in the parts of the city that have them, trams. Plan connections between modes rather than expecting a single service to cover everything.
- Buses are a core part of getting around London and complement the rail and Underground network. Treat them as a flexible fallback for shorter, more local trips and for routes the Tube does not cover directly.
- Taxis and ride-hailing services are available as an alternative to public transport, and are most useful for direct, door-to-door journeys, when you are carrying luggage, or when public transport is not running conveniently for your route.
- Walking is a straightforward way to cover short distances around Archway and to connect between stops and stations, with public transport reserved for longer trips across London.
- If you are arriving by air, travel from the airport into central London first, then connect onward to Archway by Underground, rail, or bus for the final leg — and allow extra time for the connection when carrying luggage.
- London's public transport uses integrated ticketing, so you can generally pay for Underground, rail, bus, and tram journeys without buying a separate ticket for each mode. Use a reloadable or contactless payment method that works across the network, consider a travel pass if you plan to make many journeys, and check that your chosen payment method is accepted before you travel.
Three days in Archway
Day one: Start by getting your bearings in Archway, using the Tube or buses to reach the area before switching to walking for the streets around the centre. Plan your time around the Underground and bus routes so you can move between Archway and the wider city without relying on taxis.
- Use the Tube to arrive in Archway.
- Walk the immediate streets to get your bearings.
- Plan the rest of your day around bus and Underground connections.
Day two: Treat the Underground as your link into London, then return to Archway on foot and by bus. If you prefer not to walk everywhere, taxis are an option, but the Tube and buses will cover most of your movements.
- Take the Underground into London.
- Return to Archway by bus or Tube.
- Use walking for shorter stretches.
Day three: Plan a final day that keeps Archway as your base, using buses and the Underground to reach London and walking to fill the gaps. If you have time, treat yourself to a slower pace around Archway before you leave.
- Use buses and the Underground for your final connections.
- Walk around Archway at your own pace.
- Plan your departure around Tube and bus times.
