Kafr ash Shaykh

Introduction

Kafr El Sheikh is a city in the Nile Delta of lower Egypt and the capital of the governorate of the same name, set roughly 134 km north of Cairo. It sits in the fertile flatlands of the delta, in the north of the country.

This is a working delta capital rather than a tourist centre, so come expecting an everyday Egyptian provincial city and plan your stay around that.

Three days in Kafr ash Shaykh

Day one: Start in Kafr El Sheikh itself, getting your bearings in this Nile Delta city before planning anything further afield. Use the day to settle into the pace of the Delta and to arrange how you will travel onward.

Day two: Head out into the Nile Delta countryside around Kafr El Sheikh, where the flat green landscape and waterways define the character of the region. Keep your itinerary flexible and let the day unfold at Delta speed.

Day three: If you want a change of scale, Cairo is within reach for a day, but otherwise spend a final day in and around Kafr El Sheikh before you leave Egypt.
