Indre By
Introduction
Indre By — also called Copenhagen Center, K, or Downtown Copenhagen — is the administrative district at the heart of Denmark's capital. It is compact enough to cover on foot, and it forms the historic core around which the rest of the city is arranged.
What to see and do
In Indre By you can wander to Nyhavn, the harbour front that gives the old city its best-known face. Beyond that single landmark, the source material for this district is thin, so treat the area as somewhere to explore on foot rather than a checklist of sights.Three days in Indre By
Day one: Start in Indre By, the historic heart of Copenhagen Center, and let yourself get oriented on foot. Wander through the streets of Downtown Copenhagen, where the city's oldest quarters sit close together, and finish your day at Nyhavn, the canal-side stretch of colourful townhouses and moored boats that has become the image of the city. It is an easy first day: no need to rush, just follow the streets and see where they take you.
Day two: Go deeper into Indre By. In Indre By you will find the core of Denmark's capital, where the city's history is layered into the streets around you. Spend the day moving between the neighbourhood's squares and lanes, stopping when something catches your eye. It is a district that rewards slow walking rather than a checklist.
Day three: Use your last day to fill in whatever you missed in Copenhagen Center, then return to Nyhavn in the evening for a final look at the canal. Beyond the obvious sights, Indre By is a place to simply be in - sit, watch, and let the city move around you before you leave Denmark.
