Wushan
Getting around
Wushan is a mountainous county, so expect hilly, winding roads rather than a flat, grid-like street plan. The local bus network, run by Wushan Yu'an Public Transport Co., Ltd., is the workhorse of everyday travel; its newer Ankai buses were chosen for strong hill-climbing ability on mountainous routes. Pay your fare on board as you would on any Chinese city bus, and keep small change or a transit card handy.
Taxis and ride-hailing fill the gaps the buses don't cover conveniently. Ride-hailing apps work as they do elsewhere in China, letting you set a pickup point and pay through the app, and a taxi is often the easiest way to reach a specific hotel or scenic spot without navigating bus transfers. Walking works for short errands and exploring a neighbourhood, but slopes and stairs mean distances that look short on a map can take longer on foot, so wear comfortable shoes and take a bus or taxi for longer or steeper journeys. There is no extensive urban rail, metro or tram system here, so plan around buses, taxis and walking, and treat any rail connections as part of longer-distance journeys. If you arrive by air, arrange your onward transfer in advance where possible, allow extra time for the mountainous roads, and confirm your drop-off point with the driver.
Three days in Wushan
Day one: Start in Wushan itself, getting your bearings on foot through the town's streets before turning to the river. Walking is the simplest way to cover the centre, and you can pay as you go on the local buses run by the Wushan Yu Public Transport Co Ltd when your legs tire. In the evening, settle in for a Chinese meal in town and take an early night ahead of the days out.

Day two: Give the day to the river and the gorges around Wushan. Ride an Ankai coach or a taxi to reach the viewpoints and boat landings, and pay your fares as you go. If you would rather not organise transport yourself, ask at your guesthouse about the simplest way to join a river trip. Return to town in the evening.
