Getting around

Nanbin Road sits on Chongqing's central peninsula in Yuzhong District, and you can reach it without a car. The metro is your quickest option for longer distances and for crossing the rivers and hills that shape the city. The nearest station is Shanxin Street, a short walk from the road, served by Line 3 toward Yudong and by Line 6. Trains run from early morning until late at night, so the metro works for both daytime sightseeing and evening trips. Tongyuanju is another nearby station, but it is a considerably longer walk from the road.

Buses fill in what the metro leaves out, running along the riverside and up into the surrounding neighbourhoods. The closest stops are Haitang Misty Rain Park and Haitang Misty Plaza, both within a short walk, and routes 338, 373, 375, 353, 350 and 359 pass nearby. Buses start early and finish late, though services wind down at night, so keep a taxi or ride-hailing app handy for late evenings and cross-river trips; drivers know the bridges and interchanges well, and routes tend to funnel through the Shibanpo Yangtze River Bridge, the Caiyuanba Yangtze River Bridge and the Caiyuanba Interchange. Walking is rewarding but demands stamina: the surrounding lanes — Shanchen Lane, Pipa Mountain Back Street, Biwa Mountain Zheng Street and the Mountain City Third Walkway — climb and twist through the hills, and distances that look short on a map can involve stairs and slopes. Wear comfortable shoes, and plan a car-free day mixing short walks with metro and bus rides. From the airport, the Airport Shuttle or a taxi or ride-hailing car gets you into the city; switch to the metro at Shanxin Street or to buses at the Haitang stops to reach the road.

Three days in Nanbin

Day one: Start on Nanbin Road, the long riverside promenade in Yuzhong District, and walk its length for your first look at the Chongqing skyline across the water. Continue to Haitang Misty Rain Park and Haitang Misty Plaza for a slower stretch along the riverbank. In the evening, cross by the Shibanpo Yangtze River Bridge or the Caiyuanba Yangtze River Bridge to see the city lights from the water.

Day two: Give the day to the hillside lanes of Yuzhong District. Wander Shanchen Lane, Pipa Mountain Back Street and Biwa Mountain Zheng Street, then follow the Mountain City Third Walkway for views over the rooftops. Wear comfortable shoes, as the streets climb steeply. Reach the area by Line or by bus, and use the Caiyuanba Interchange as a landmark when you navigate back.

Day three: Head to Shanxin Street to see a different side of the city, then take the Line or a bus toward Yudong for a change of pace. If you are leaving, the Airport Shuttle and trains from Tongyuanju keep the day simple. Keep the afternoon free for one last walk along Nanbin Road before you go.
