Jiangyou

Introduction

Jiangyou is a county-level city in Mianyang, in Sichuan province. Its city proper is divided into four urban districts, and the wider jurisdiction extends over a large number of towns and rural townships, so the settled core is only part of what the name covers.

The city is known as the hometown of Li Bai, a leading poet of the Tang dynasty — the association with him is the thing most worth knowing before you arrive.

Getting around

Jiangyou has no metro or tram network, so getting around means buses, taxis and walking. The city proper is split into four urban districts, and the core is compact enough that walking works well for errands, meals and short hops between nearby sights, including the places tied to Li Bai. For the surrounding towns and rural townships, which are spread across a wide area, you will want a bus, taxi or car.

Local buses are the main way to move without a car, and Jiangyou Railway Station on Jianshe North Road is the best-served hub. Route 1 links the station with Jiangyou Coach Station, handy if you are connecting between coach and rail; Route 2 runs to the City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine East Station, and Route 8 connects the hospital with Shenjiagou Health and Wellness Base Station. The Fantawild Special Line runs from the station to Fantawild North Station for the theme park. Fares and payment methods are not documented, so carry small change or a local payment app and confirm on arrival. Taxis wait in the parking lot in front of the station square, the straightforward choice with luggage or for places buses do not reach; ride-hailing is widely used across Chinese cities, but confirm the pickup point with your driver. If you arrive by air, plan on a train into Jiangyou Railway Station, an intermediate stop on both the Xi'an–Chengdu High-Speed Railway and the Baoji–Chengdu Railway, then a bus or taxi onward. Check your ticket carefully: Jiangyou North Railway Station is a different station on the high-speed line.

Three days in Jiangyou

Day one: Start in Jiangyou itself, getting your bearings along Jianshe North Road before turning to the city's most famous son, Li Bai, whose Tang-era legacy shapes how the place presents itself. Local buses and taxis make it easy to move between sights, and if you arrive by rail, Jiangyou Railway Station and Jiangyou North Railway Station are your main gateways, with the Xi'an–Chengdu High-Speed Railway and the Baoji–Chengdu Railway both serving the area.

Day two: Give a full day to the Fantawild theme park, reached via the Fantawild Special Line to Fantawild North Station. Check fares and timings in advance, since the special line and park schedules vary, and keep the Fantawild North Station stop in mind for your return.

Day three: Use Jiangyou as a base for wider Sichuan exploring, with Mianyang and Chengdu both reachable by rail, and the Jiangyou Coach Station serving regional bus routes. If you need medical care during your stay, City Hospital and the Traditional Chinese Medicine East station are on hand, along with Shenjiagou Health and Wellness Base Station.
