Shilong
Introduction
Shilong is an industrial town in Guangdong province, under the direct administration of Dongguan. It is a working town rather than a tourist destination, so you should arrive expecting a straightforward look at everyday life in one of the region's manufacturing centres.
Getting around
First, confirm which Shilong you are heading to, since the name is shared by places in Guangdong, Henan and Hubei. The guidance here covers Shilong Town in Dongguan, Guangdong, where the transport information is concentrated. If you are coming from Hong Kong, Macau or the Zhuhai border area, the most direct option is a cross-border coach to the Shilong Hotel cross-border bus station on Xinqiao Road, which drops you in the town itself rather than at a distant hub. CTS BUS operates these routes, bookable through GoByBus.hk, and they link Shilong Hotel with Hong Kong Airport, Shenzhen Bay, Macau, Zhuhai and Guangzhou. The station works in both directions, so you can also use it to leave. If your itinerary runs through the Macau–Zhuhai crossing instead, Gongbei Port and Portas do Cerco Gongbei are nearby alternatives.
For day-to-day movement, local buses are the main option. Guangzhou Bus Group runs routes through Shilong with inexpensive fares paid on board, so keep small notes or coins handy. Guangzhou Route 472, for example, runs between Daling Village Bus Terminal and Jianggao (Dasonggang) Bus Terminal, passing through Daling, Shenshan, Wufeng, Langtou, Maoshan, Hebucun, the Baiyun Campus of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University and Jianggao — useful if your destination is one of those neighbourhoods rather than the town centre. App-based ride-hailing is widely used across the Pearl River Delta and is a sensible fallback for short trips, late arrivals or places a bus does not reach; have your destination written in Chinese characters to show your driver. No rail, metro or tram network is documented for Shilong, and "Shilong Road station" on the Shanghai Metro is unrelated. For longer journeys, use the cross-border coach network or connect via Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai. Walking covers the immediate area around your accommodation and the Shilong Hotel station, but the town spreads out, so plan to combine walking with a bus or booked transfer for anything farther.
Three days in Shilong
Day one: Start in Shilong itself, a town in Guangdong within Dongguan, and use it as your base for the three days. Settle in around Shilong Hotel on Xinqiao Road, then spend your first afternoon getting your bearings on foot and sorting out onward transport, since Shilong is well connected to the wider Pearl River Delta.
Day two: Give the day to the surrounding countryside and villages south of Shilong. Buses from Daling Village Bus Terminal serve Daling, Shenshan, Wufeng, Langtou, Maoshan and Hebucun, so pick a direction and spend the day moving between these rural spots before returning to town in the evening.
Day three: Head out towards Guangzhou for a change of pace. Services such as Guangzhou Bus Group and the Guangzhou Route connect the area, and once there you can visit the Baiyun Campus of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University. If you are continuing onwards, connections run via Shenzhen Bay toward Hong Kong, Hong Kong Airport, Macau and Zhuhai, with operators including CTS BUS, GoByBus and Portas, and Gongbei Port and Cerco Gongbei serving the Macau side.
