Mingshui
Introduction
Mingshui County is a county of Heilongjiang Province in China, under the jurisdiction of the prefecture-level city of Suihua. It sits within the far northeastern part of the country, in a province known for its long, bitterly cold winters.
Getting around
Mingshui is a county town, not a metropolis, so you get around by road. There is no metro, tram or urban rail network for local journeys, and any rail travel connected to your visit is part of the longer-distance trip to and from the region rather than a way of moving around the county. In practice you rely on buses, taxis, ride-hailing and your own feet. The central subdistricts of Mingyang, Mingyuan, Mingxin and Mingquan form a compact built-up core where walking is realistic for short trips to shops, restaurants and local services; pavements and crossings in the centre are generally usable, though you should take care on busier roads where traffic and pedestrians mix. Walking becomes less practical once you head beyond the core towards the surrounding towns and townships, where distances grow and the road network spreads out.
Buses are the practical option for reaching parts of town too far to walk and for connecting the central subdistricts with outlying areas. Services typically run from early morning until around dusk, so plan evening trips around the last departures rather than assuming late-night service, and do not expect the dense, frequent coverage of a major city — frequencies are lower and some routes run infrequently or only at certain times of day. Buy your ticket on board, have small change or a mobile payment app ready, and check the destination shown on the front of the bus, since routes may branch into the surrounding towns and townships. Taxis suit short and medium journeys within the town and to nearby towns and townships, and are handy when you are carrying luggage. Ride-hailing works in county towns too, but drivers may be thinner on the ground, especially at night or in outlying areas, so allow extra waiting time and have a Chinese mobile payment method set up; for very remote townships, a taxi arranged in advance or through your accommodation is more dependable. Ask at your hotel or guesthouse about routes and departure times, as local knowledge beats any published map, and carry your accommodation's name and address in Chinese characters to show drivers.
Three days in Mingshui
Day one: Start in Mingshui County, in Heilongjiang Province, China, and get your bearings in the county town before heading out. Walking is the best way to get a feel for the place, and you can ask locally about buses and taxis if you want to cover more ground. In the evening, buy something simple from the services in town and rest up for the days ahead.

Day two: Head out to the surrounding villages of Mingyang, Mingyuan, Mingxin and Mingquan, which sit within Mingshui County. Buses and taxis can get you between them, and walking lets you take in each place at an easy pace. Ask locally about services and where to buy supplies, since facilities thin out away from the county town.

Day three: Use your last day to revisit whichever part of Mingshui County suited you best, whether that is the county town or one of the villages. Ride the buses or take a taxi, and ask about services before you set out. Keep the pace slow, buy what you need in town, and leave time to get back to Suihua if that is where your journey continues.
