Lichuan

Introduction

Lichuan is a county-level city within the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in southwestern Hubei province. It sits roughly 52 kilometres west of Enshi City, the prefecture seat, and shares a border with Chongqing Municipality to the southwest, west and north.

Three days in Lichuan

Day one: Base yourself in Lichuan, a city in Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei, and use it as your starting point for the surrounding countryside. Take the day at an easy pace to get your bearings, since the region's sights are spread out and travel between them takes time.

Day two: Head for Enshi City, the prefectural seat, to see a different side of the area and its Tujia and Miao cultural character. It makes a natural second stop before you push on toward the western edge of the prefecture.

Day three: Continue west toward the border with Chongqing Municipality, where the prefecture meets the neighbouring region. Keep the day flexible for the journey back to Lichuan, as distances across this part of Hubei are considerable.
