Tanghe

Introduction

Tanghe County sits in the southwest of Henan province, administered by the prefecture-level city of Nanyang, with Hubei province lying just to its south. In earlier times the place was known as Tangzhou, and that older name still echoes through the area's sense of itself.

Your visit here puts you in a corner of China where Henan and Hubei meet, a borderland setting that shapes the county's position within Nanyang's wider territory.

Three days in Tanghe

Day one: Arrive in Tanghe County, in Henan, and get your bearings in the town itself. Tanghe sits within Nanyang, close to the border with Hubei, so the surrounding landscape shifts between Henan and Hubei influences. Start with the older core of Tangzhou, the name by which the town was historically known, and let the pace of county life set the rhythm for your stay.

Day two: Use Tanghe as your base for exploring the wider Nanyang area. The county's position between Henan and Hubei makes it a natural point from which to move between the two provinces, and you can spend the day following the roads and waterways that link Tanghe to its neighbours. Return to Tanghe County in the evening.

Day three: Spend your final day in Tanghe County, filling in whatever you missed in Tangzhou and the town's quieter corners. If your route continues onward, Nanyang and Hubei are both within reach, making it easy to extend your trip from Tanghe into either province.
