Taonan
Introduction
Taonan is a county-level city in the northwest of Jilin province, in Northeast China, administered by Baicheng prefecture-level city. It was formerly known as Tao'an County, and you may still see the older name in historical references.
This is a small city in China's far northeast, so plan your visit around the fact that it is a working administrative town rather than a tourist destination. Use Baicheng, the prefecture-level city that governs it, as your reference point for the wider region.
Three days in Taonan
Day one: Start in Taonan itself, a county town in Baicheng, Jilin, in Northeast China. Use Baicheng as your base for the wider area, and spend your first day getting oriented in Taonan, walking its streets and settling into the slower pace of the town before venturing further afield.
Day two: Head out into the surrounding countryside of Baicheng prefecture, where the landscape of Northeast China opens up around Taonan. Keep your plans flexible and use the day to travel between the small settlements and open land that surround the county town.
Day three: Return to Taonan and use your last day to revisit the parts of the town that interested you most, then make your way back through Baicheng, Jilin, as you prepare to leave Northeast China.
