Rugao

Introduction

Rugao is a county-level city in Jiangsu, administered by Nantong, set in the Yangtze River Delta on the northern, or left, bank of the Yangtze. Its position on the river places it within one of China's great delta regions, with the waterway shaping the city's setting and its connections to the surrounding area.

Three days in Rugao

Day one: Start in Rugao, a city in Jiangsu within the Yangtze River Delta. Get your bearings along the Yangtze, the great river that shapes this part of China, and spend the rest of the day settling into the pace of the city before planning the days ahead.

Day two: Head out to explore Rugao itself, keeping in mind its position between the Yangtze and the wider Nantong area. Use the day to move between the city's districts and riverside stretches, letting the geography of the delta guide you.

Day three: Round off your time in Rugao with a slower morning, then travel onward if your route continues through Jiangsu or toward Nantong. If you still have hours to spare, return to the Yangtze for a final look at the water before you leave.
