Jiawang
Introduction
Jiawang District is a suburban district in the north of Xuzhou, in Jiangsu province. It sits at the northern edge of the city, bordering the prefecture-level city of Zaozhuang in Shandong province to the north.
Getting around
Jiawang is a suburban district of Xuzhou rather than a standalone city, and its built-up core is compact enough to cover on foot, with shops, services and the main medical and educational institutions concentrated there. Beyond the centre the terrain turns hilly, especially in the north and east, so treat walking as your mode for the core and switch to a vehicle for anything further afield.
- Taxis and ride-hailing are the most flexible way to reach the hillier northern and eastern parts and anywhere the bus network doesn't serve conveniently. Away from the core, hailing a passing cab is less reliable, so book return trips through an app and confirm the fare and destination before setting off.
- For rail, metro or tram travel, head into Xuzhou and connect there; the district's rail history is a former narrow-gauge mining line, not a current visitor service, and no metro or tram network is described as serving Jiawang itself.
- If you're arriving by air, fly into the airport serving Xuzhou and continue overland by taxi, ride-hailing or bus, confirming current transfer options locally when you arrive.
- Double-check any booking that mentions "Jiawang": the cross-border bus stop of that name, Jiawang Mansion Taishan, is in Taishan, Jiangmen, Guangdong, and has nothing to do with Jiawang District in Xuzhou.
Three days in Jiawang
Day one: Start in Jiawang District, part of Xuzhou in Jiangsu, and get your bearings in the town itself. It is a compact base, so you can spend the morning on foot before deciding how far you want to range. Local taxis make it easy to reach the surrounding sights without a car. In the evening, settle in for a meal and an early night, since the next two days take you further afield.

Day two: Head out of town towards Taishan, the mountain that gives the area its draw. If you want to stay close to the mountain rather than return to Jiawang, the Jiawang Mansion Taishan is a convenient base for an early start. Beyond the climb, the surrounding countryside rewards a slower pace. Away from the main routes, the landscape is quiet and worth lingering over.

Day three: Use your last day to look further afield. Zaozhuang in Shandong lies within reach, and Jiangmen in Guangdong is a longer journey if your plans stretch that far. For a gentler finish, stay local and revisit the parts of Jiawang you enjoyed most. Double-check your transport back to Xuzhou before you set out, so the day ends without a rush.
