Datun
Getting around
Datun sits within Beijing's wider public transport network, so the practical approach is to plug into the city's metro and bus system and work outward from there. For metro travel, use Datunludong station in Chaoyang District as your anchor point when planning journeys to or from the area. Buses offer a direct alternative: Beijing Public Transport route 108 runs between Outside Chongwenmen and Datun South, linking central Beijing with the Datun area. The route has 21 stops and takes roughly 50 minutes end to end, with buses running about every 10 minutes, so waits are generally short. Service operates daily, though hours may change around National Day and National Day Golden Week holidays, so check locally on those dates.
Taxis and ride-hailing apps are widely used across Beijing and work well as a flexible backup where metro or bus routes do not go directly to your destination, particularly for late-night trips or when carrying luggage; confirm the fare or app estimate before setting off. Around key transport nodes the area is likely to be navigable on foot, but rely on local signage and maps for specific walking routes and crossings once you arrive. If you are coming from the airport, check current transfer options locally, then connect onward to Datun by metro via Datunludong station or by bus, such as route 108 to Datun South.
Three days in Datun
Day one: Start in Datun itself, getting your bearings in this part of Chaoyang District before heading into Beijing. Buses run from Datunludong and Datun South, and Beijing Public Transport services connect you with the rest of the city. Outside Chongwenmen you can pick up taxis for the onward leg of your day.
Day two: Give the day over to Beijing, using the bus and taxi links from Datun to reach the centre and back. Keep an eye on the calendar: if your visit falls during National Day or the National Day Golden Week, expect the city to be busier and plan your transport accordingly.
Day three: Stay closer to base around Datun, revisiting the parts of Chaoyang District you liked and sorting out your departure. Check bus and taxi options from Datunludong and Datun South in advance so the return leg is straightforward.
