Three days in Sumare
Day one: Start in Sumaré itself, a city in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, within the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. Get your bearings in the urban centre before heading out to Nova Veneza, a district whose character reflects the Italian roots of many of its residents. It is a good introduction to the area's mix of city life and immigrant heritage.
Day two: Turn to the Rebouças district, which takes its name from the engineer and abolitionist André Rebouças. Spend your time exploring the neighbourhood on foot and noticing how the city's districts each carry their own identity. You can round off the day back in the centre of Sumaré.
Day three: Use your last day to look at a different strand of the region's story. The Japanese community has left its mark on the area, and Honda has a presence here too, a reminder of the industrial side of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. From Sumaré you are well placed to continue on to Campinas if you want to extend your trip.
