Artur Alvim
Getting around
Artur Alvim's metro station, on Line 3-Red (Linha 3-Vermelha), is the anchor for almost every journey in and out of the district. The line runs between Corinthians-Itaquera in the east and Palmeiras-Barra Funda in the west; heading west you can connect onward to Sé, República, CPTM trains and the São Paulo bus terminal, while heading east brings you to Corinthians-Itaquera, with its multimodal terminal and access to the Arena Corinthians stadium. The station sits at surface level with a central platform serving both directions, so you step straight out into the surrounding streets and local commerce. Elevators and tactile flooring are provided for passengers with reduced mobility, and signage is in Portuguese. The station is monitored by metro security personnel and surveillance systems, but weekday morning and late-afternoon rush periods can be very crowded, so keep your belongings secure when boarding.
- Buy or recharge a Bilhete Único at metro stations; the card covers metro and buses and gives free transfers within a time window. Confirm current fares and transfer rules when you top up.
- Numerous municipal bus lines stop on the streets around the station, serving Artur Alvim, Itaquera and São Mateus, and local buses reach nearby green space such as Parque do Carmo (Olga Férri). For larger regional transfers, head to Corinthians-Itaquera.
- Ride-sharing apps and registered taxis operate in the area; after dark these are the safer choice over walking or waiting on the street.
- Walking works for short distances within the neighbourhood, with bakeries, pharmacies, supermarkets and small retail clustered around the station.
- No direct rail link serves any airport, so plan a transfer: for Guarulhos, take Line 3-Red to Palmeiras-Barra Funda and change to the Airport Express; for Congonhas, transfer to a bus or taxi from stations such as Paraíso or São Judas.
- English is not widely spoken, so have key addresses and station names written down, and use the official "Metrô CPTM" app or Google Maps for schedules and service alerts.
