Vespasiano
Introduction
Vespasiano sits in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan region, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, about 27 kilometres north of the state capital. Use it as a base for exploring this part of Minas Gerais, with Belo Horizonte within easy reach to the south.
Getting around
Vespasiano is a compact municipality in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan region, and you should plan your movements around that relationship. There is no metro, rail or tram network serving the town itself, so getting in, out and around means buses, taxis or a car. The main public-transport link is the Saritur bus from the Rodoviária de Belo Horizonte to the Vila Asas station in Vespasiano: it runs direct, every day, roughly every half hour in journey time, but only a few times daily, so check departure times ahead and build your day around them. Buying your ticket in advance or arriving early at the terminal is the safest approach, especially if you are connecting onward to a flight.
Taxis are a practical alternative for the Belo Horizonte–Vespasiano trip and for local errands, taking around 25 minutes and costing more than the bus but offering door-to-door flexibility when bus times do not suit; operators serving the area include Coopertáxi, Coopertramo and Minas Taxi. Driving is another common option, with a similar journey time and only modest fuel and toll costs, and it gives you the most freedom for reaching scattered destinations such as Cidade do Galo and FASEH. Walking works for short trips within the centre, but it is not realistic for covering the distance to Belo Horizonte or moving between outlying points. Vespasiano has no airport of its own, so if you fly in you will arrive through Belo Horizonte's airport and continue overland by one of these connections, allowing extra time if you are catching a flight.
Three days in Vespasiano
Day one: Use Vespasiano as your base and get your bearings in the town itself, walking the streets to get a feel for daily life in Minas Gerais. Buy what you need locally, and if you want to head further afield, taxis from Coopertáxi, Coopertramo or Minas Taxi can take you where you need to go. In the evening, eat Brazilian food in town and rest up for a fuller day.
