Millennium Park is where the holiday season has officially begun: the City of Chicago Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place on Friday, November 20, 2026, and the Holiday Market runs the same weekend, Friday through Sunday, November 20–22. If your trip stretches into December, the Holiday Sing Along returns to Millennium Park on Fridays — December 4, 11 and 18 — and the season closes with the New Year's Eve Celebration on Thursday, December 31. Plan your Black Friday around the market and the tree, and treat the December dates as your reason to stay longer.

Know What the City's Market Calendar Actually Does
Chicago runs two market traditions that a visitor should understand before planning a shopping day. The Chicago Farmers Markets operate citywide from May through October, including the Daley Plaza market, which opens Thursday, May 21, and the Division Street market, which opens Saturday, May 16. The Maxwell Street Market, at 1330 S. Halsted, runs monthly on Sundays from May through October. Eat Like the City Does in Late November
