Midnight on Grand Park's Olive Street Steps
At 8 PM on December 31, the four marked entrances to Gloria Molina Grand Park — Olive & 1st, Hill & Temple, Hill & 1st, Main & 1st — fill with people moving downhill toward the music. NYELA, the city's free street festival in Downtown LA, needs no ticket. Two stages run DJs and live sets, food trucks line the walks, and at midnight an art projection climbs the face of City Hall. This year the festival runs an hour later than in past years: 8 PM to 1 AM. Arrive early enough to eat before the sets get loud, and pick your exit before the countdown, not after.
Count Down From a Roller Coaster or a Rooftop
If you want the night packaged, Los Angeles sells it in several distinct formats, and most of them sell out by mid-December.
- Universal Studios Hollywood EVE — the park stays open until 2 AM with three party zones: Rock the Night, Electric New Year, and Latin Beat. Midnight fireworks are visible from multiple areas, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Springfield. It's included with standard admission and Platinum Passes; other annual pass tiers may need a discounted add-on. Note that some fireworks viewing spots around the city, Universal CityWalk among them, have shifted from free walk-up to ticketed entry.
- Forever Midnight — Insomniac's house and EDM festival at the LA Convention Center in Downtown, 21+, with three stages running from afternoon into the early morning. Past lineups have included Tiësto and Chris Lake; general admission is tiered and runs well into three figures.
- Avalon Hollywood — the historic Vine Street club throws a 21+ countdown party; recent lineups have included Diplo and Markus Schulz, with GA recently around $60–65. The 2026 headliner is announced closer to the date.
- Exchange LA — the multi-level DTLA club is 21+ with tiered tickets that sell out in stages; past acts include Alison Wonderland and Slander.
- Topgolf El Segundo — 9 PM to 1 AM, with unlimited play, a buffet, a live DJ and a midnight toast (21+ for alcohol), priced per bay for up to six people.
Laugh, Toast, or Run the Parade Route
Three traditions reward planning well ahead. The Roast Battle: NYE Edition at The Comedy Store's Belly Room on the Sunset Strip pits two comics against each other with celebrity judges and a live DJ between rounds — it reliably sells out long before December 31. At the Santa Monica Playhouse, the New Year's Eve Musical Revue marks more than 50 years as a cabaret tradition, with two shows on December 31: a 7 PM family-friendly performance and a 10:30 PM show with a midnight cast meet-and-greet. Every ticket includes champagne or sparkling cider and a dessert buffet, from $49.50 for the early show, and it tends to sell out too. In Pasadena, the Lululemon Run With the Roses Midnight 5K returns for its third year, running the Rose Parade route along Colorado Boulevard; the main wave starts near midnight, finishers 13 and up get a bib and medal plus a post-race party, and there's a "Beat the Countdown Challenge" for sub-20-minute finishes. Registration is a fee that rises closer to the date.
Earlier Countdowns, Aquariums, and a Harbor Cruise
Not every celebration waits for midnight. At Discovery Cube LA in Sylmar, Noon Year's Eve offers an early countdown with an apple cider toast, science exhibits, a dance floor, and balloon drops at noon and 3 PM; it requires a separate timed ticket on top of general admission ($5 members, $7 non-members), and slots fill up. At the L.A. Zoo Lights in Griffith Park, Family New Year's Eve runs 6–10 PM and pairs the Animals Aglow lantern display with a package that includes express entry, buffet dinner and dessert, a kids' dance floor, a ball drop broadcast, and a 9 PM sparkling toast with cider for kids — $79 for children, $95 for adults. In Long Beach, the Aquarium of the Pacific's New Year's Eve Night Dive runs 8 PM to 1 AM with a live band, multiple DJs, a magic show, and a confetti countdown among the tanks; it is now 18 and over, previously all-ages, and alcohol purchases require a 21+ ID, from $84.95 for members and $89.95 general admission. Also in Long Beach, City Cruises' Premier Dinner Cruise sails four hours from Rainbow Harbor with a buffet dinner, sparkling wine toast, DJ, and views of the waterfront fireworks at midnight — it sells out early, with pricing posted when seasonal booking opens in the fall.
Crawl a Neighborhood, Then Eat
Bar crawls give you a route instead of a single room, all 21+ with valid ID. In Downtown LA, a Nasstive crawl covers 10-plus bars and lounges with drink specials; the venue roster is released in the fall. Santa Monica runs a multi-bar crawl with VIP access, free entry at participating venues, drink specials and a free after-party, though the host bar and start time shift yearly. In Old Pasadena, check-in runs 6–9 PM at Behind Bars, with stops including Urban Pocha, Ole Town Pub and Der Wolf, plus a champagne toast, drink specials, a digital map, and an after-party at Behind Bars for arrivals before 11 PM; prices rise closer to the date. Wherever the night takes you, restaurants citywide add prix-fixe New Year's Eve menus, and the popular ones book by mid-December. For getting between neighborhoods, LA Metro typically runs extended service on New Year's Eve — check current service alerts before you rely on it. Rooftop bars and hotel lounges Downtown also run ticketed parties; call ahead for pricing, since club lineups and exact DJ-night prices are announced closer to the date.
Start with the one decision that shapes everything else: free and open at Grand Park, or ticketed and seated somewhere that will be full by mid-December.
