Watch the Sky Over Kallang Basin

By late afternoon on 9 August, the walkways around the National Stadium fill with people in red and white, and the water at Kallang Basin catches the first reflections of the evening. This is where Singapore's 61st birthday is staged in 2026 — the parade's first return to the National Stadium in ten years, and 50 years since the first National Day Parade was held at the old stadium on the same site. The stadium holds 42,000, but the wider Kallang precinct is set up to host up to 200,000 people across its celebration spaces, so there is room to be part of it even without a ticket.

Tickets to the stadium are free but balloted, and balloting has closed. If you didn't get one, treat the precinct itself as the venue: the Majulah Zone interactive experience runs 4pm–9.30pm on 9 August, the Go Beyond! Lighted Display lines Stadium Riverside Walk, and Kallang Wave Mall hosts buskers, DJs and NDP mascots from 4pm to 6pm. Crowds build fast around Kallang — take the MRT rather than driving, as parking near the Sports Hub is difficult on National Day.

Catch a Preview or Rehearsal Before the Main Event

The stadium shows aren't one-night-only. If you're in Singapore in the weeks before August, you can watch the parade take shape — and the fireworks rehearsals are visible from public vantage points around the basin without a ticket.

Preview tickets are also balloted, but free public fireworks viewing spots are recommended if you simply want the sky.

Follow the Light Trail Through Bras Basah.Bugis

From 1 August to 5 September, the Bras Basah.Bugis district becomes a free after-dark walk. Light Together Bras Basah.Bugis spreads across five experiential zones — projection mapping, a light tunnel, an interactive light tree, and a chilli-and-onion light installation. It runs 7.30pm–12am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 7.30pm–11pm Sunday through Thursday, at Artsplace @ Waterloo Centre, the Reflection Pool at Bras Basah MRT, Stamford Place, Stamford Walkway, and the National Museum of Singapore from 1–12 August.

The National Museum itself runs "National Day Celebrations: Myths, Legends & The Stories That Made Us" from 1–12 August, with projection mapping on the same evening schedule, plus workshops, storytelling, performances and exhibitions. Entry is free on 9 August, and free with selected paid programmes at other times.

Free Concerts, Sing-Alongs and a Treasure Hunt

You don't need a stadium ticket to spend the day well. Several celebrations are free and open to anyone who turns up.

One thing to know: there are no official Heartland NDP celebrations in 2026, so the neighbourhood energy sits in these community events rather than the usual heartland parties.

Build a Full Day Around the Edges

Two anchors reward an early start and a late finish. The Istana Open House on 26 July runs 9.30am–8pm — free for Singapore Citizens, PRs and migrant workers and families, with standard admission at $20 per adult and $10 per child, under-fours free. At the other end of the day, the Singapore Flyer runs a special overnight ride from 11pm on 9 August to 8am on 10 August.

Changi Airport and Jewel keep the celebrations running all month. The Jewel Rain Vortex National Day Light & Music Showcase plays at 8pm and 9pm throughout August, free. Music Escapades fills T3 Departure Hall on 1 August (12pm–7pm) and 2 August (1pm–5pm) with over 700 musicians from 16 bands. On National Day weekend, ST3PS at T3 Basement 2 hosts live music, goodie bags and Minions and My Little Pony meet-and-greets on 8 August (1pm–2.30pm) and 9 August (4pm–5.30pm) — both free.

And if you're already thinking ahead: NDP 2027 returns to the Padang, marking 60 years of National Service. The Padang was the first NDP venue in 1966, so it's a homecoming worth planning around.

Start with the dates: 9 August 2026 at the National Stadium, the previews through late June and July, and the free programming that runs from 25 July to 9 August across Kallang. Book your accommodation near an MRT line, keep the evening of 2 August open for The Meadow, and let the rest of the month fill in around the light trail and the concerts.
