Watch the Sky Over Kallang Basin
You'll want to be near the water on the evening of 9 August 2026. The National Day Parade returns to the National Stadium at The Kallang for Singapore's 61st birthday, and the fireworks begin at roughly 7.30pm. This year the Presidential Gun Salute is fired at Kallang Basin for the first time, so the water itself becomes part of the ceremony. Look up between 5.30pm and 6.20pm for the RSAF Island Flypast and State Flag Flypast over the basin — F-16 jets and helicopters also trace routes over heartland neighbourhoods, so even away from the stadium you can catch them crossing the sky.
Inside the stadium, the show includes the first-ever indoor drone display at an NDP, with more than 300 drones, aerial performers and special effects. Note what's absent: the Red Lions parachute demonstration, the mobile column and the aerial display are excluded in 2026 for safety reasons. The State Flag Flypast, fireworks, gun salute and show segment all remain. Tickets are free but balloted, and balloting has closed, with successful applicants notified between 15 and 17 June. If you didn't get a seat, the fireworks and flypast are visible from outside the stadium.
Catch a Rehearsal or Preview Before the Main Event
The weeks before 9 August give you several chances to see the parade take shape at the National Stadium. Combined Rehearsals fall on 27 June and 4 July 2026. National Education Shows run on 11 and 18 July. Previews take place on 25 July and 1 August. Preview tickets are also balloted, so plan early if you want a seat. These dates are useful if you're visiting Singapore in late June or July and want the parade atmosphere without the crowds of the day itself.
Follow the Light Trail Through Bras Basah.Bugis
From 1 August to 5 September 2026, the Bras Basah.Bugis district hosts Light Together, a free after-dark trail running 7.30pm to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 7.30pm to 11pm Sunday through Thursday. Five experiential zones spread across the area feature projection mapping, a light tunnel, an interactive light tree and a chilli-and-onion light installation — the last a nod to the district's food heritage. Find installations at Artsplace @ Waterloo Centre, the Reflection Pool at Bras Basah MRT, Stamford Place, Stamford Walkway, and the National Museum of Singapore, which hosts its own projection mapping from 1 to 12 August. The museum's theme this year is "National Day Celebrations: Myths, Legends & The Stories That Made Us", with free entry on 9 August and free access to selected paid programmes.
Eat, Sing and Wander the Free Celebrations
Start at Gardens by the Bay on 2 August 2026, where The Meadow hosts the Mediacorp National Day Concert. Pre-concert festivities begin at 4.30pm and the concert starts at 7.45pm, ending with fireworks. It's free, with performers including Olivia Ong, Benjamin Kheng, Hady Mirza, Cherie Tse, 53A and the Urban Drum Crew, alongside local school students. Fringe activities include carnival games, acrylic painting, a photobooth, face painting, balloon sculpting, an AR costume booth, free candy floss, popcorn and ice cream, plus food vendors — enough to make an afternoon of it.

- Changi Airport & Jewel, 1–31 August 2026: the Jewel Rain Vortex hosts a National Day Light & Music Showcase at 8pm and 9pm, free. Music Escapades fills T3 Departure Hall on 1 August (12pm–7pm) and 2 August (1pm–5pm) with more than 700 musicians across 16 bands. At ST3PS in T3 Basement 2, a National Day Weekend celebration runs 8 August (1pm–2.30pm) and 9 August (4pm–5.30pm) with Minions and My Little Pony mascot meet-and-greets, free.
- Sengkang Grand Mall, 8–9 August 2026, 12pm–8pm: nostalgic games, kacang puteh and live performances on the first day; a parade watch party with Mediacorp radio personalities Joey Tay and Jeff Goh on the second. Level 1 Main Atrium, free.
- PAssionArts Festival: eight neighbourhoods take part under the theme "Our Neighbourhood Gems", including a 2.4m "Birthday Cake" installation at Paya Lebar-Kovan, a 10m cascading painted flower display at Zhenghua, and an upcycled-plastic-bottle installation on Punggol bridges and waterways at Punggol Coast.
One thing to know: there are no official Heartland celebrations in 2026, so the neighbourhood energy comes from the PAssionArts installations and the mall events rather than a central heartland programme.
Join the Majulah Hunt Across the Island
If you like your celebration with a side of exploration, the Majulah Hunt is a nationwide digital treasure hunt run with Accenture and Google through a web app. It spans 61 locations over eight weeks, with rewards including limited-edition NDP plushies and stickers, and a final secret location revealed on completion. It's a way to move through the city rather than stand in one spot — useful if you're here for the whole season and want to see more than the stadium.
Plan Around the Calendar
The season effectively runs from late June, when rehearsals begin, through the first week of September, when the Bras Basah.Bugis light trail closes. Book accommodation early if you're coming for 9 August itself, and check the balloting windows for parade and preview tickets well before you travel. If you're already thinking about a return trip, note that NDP 2027 is confirmed for The Padang, marking 60 years of National Service — the Padang was the first NDP venue in 1966. Start with the free events: the light trail, the Gardens by the Bay concert, the Istana open house and the Changi showcases cost nothing and give you the fullest sense of how Singapore marks its birthday.
