Stand on Piłsudski Square as the City Sings
On the evening of 1 August, Marshal Józef Piłsudski Square fills for "Warsaw residents sing (un)forbidden songs" — the twentieth edition of the communal sing-along, free to join. Earlier that day, at 17:00, sirens sound across the city for W Hour: traffic stops, pedestrians stand still, and Freedom Park hosts an outdoor studio from 15:00 with the moment broadcast on the Warsaw Uprising Museum's social media. If you are in Warsaw for the commemorative season, plan your day around 17:00 and build the rest of your schedule outward from it.
Run, Ride and Walk the Commemorative Routes
The programme spreads across museums, parks, squares and memorial sites, and much of it is participatory rather than spectator-only. Register early where required — several events cap numbers.
- Warsaw Uprising Run (25 July): the 35th edition, with 5 km and 10 km routes plus a virtual option; start times 20:15 and 21:15, followed by a ticketed 21:00 concert by Błażej Król in Freedom Park.
- Insurgent bicycle ride (2 August): departs Freedom Park at 17:00 via Ochota and Mokotów; registration required.
- March of Remembrance for civilian inhabitants of Wola (5 August): ceremony at 18:00, march at 19:00 from Memorial Square (ul. Leszno / al. Solidarność) to the Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery, arriving around 20:30.
- Family outdoor game "Labyrinth '44" (2 August): 10:00–20:00 at MZA Hall B, ul. Włościańska 52; registration required.
Exhibitions, Photo Shows and a Dress That Asks a Question
The city's museums carry the season indoors, and several displays stay up well past the anniversary dates. From 29 July, "Weave. Can a dress be a uniform?" opens in Sala pod Liberatorem at the Warsaw Uprising Museum on a standard museum ticket. The Scout Rally runs at the museum from 29 July to 2 August. A free outdoor photo exhibition opens 31 July in the Open-Air Gallery at Royal Łazienki Park and remains until 30 September — an easy add-on to a park afternoon. The Eugeniusz Lokajski photo competition "Memory 'In' the frame" runs 25 July–7 August, and the album premiere "Photographer at war. 36 frames" takes place 27 July at 18:00 at Powiśle Power Plant by invitation.
Family Mornings, Evening Theatre and Where to Ask Questions
If you are travelling with children, the family educational event "It started around the corner…" runs 26 July, 11:00–14:00 in Freedom Park, free. The same day brings an anniversary Mass with insurgents and scouts at 18:00 in Freedom Park, broadcast online. Later in the week, the play "It Was Not Hot" runs 3–6 August at 20:00 in Sala pod Liberatorem, ticketed. For orientation, the information centre at the Warsaw Uprising Museum, ul. Grzybowska 79, building C, operates 25 July–2 August, 10:00–18:00 — use it to confirm times, since the programme is subject to change and admission varies between free, ticketed, by invitation and by registration.
Honorary Guards and the Shape of the Day
On 1 August, "Freedom connects" honorary guards stand at memorial sites across the city, giving the day a quiet structure between the larger gatherings. Pair a morning at the museum with an afternoon in Freedom Park, hold your place for 17:00, and finish on Piłsudski Square for the singing. Check the museum's channels before you travel — the programme is published as a dated listing and details can shift.
Start with the dates: book your stay around late July into the first days of August, register for the run or the bicycle ride if you want to move with the city rather than watch it, and keep one evening free for the square.
