Watch the Casino de Monte-Carlo Become a Christmas Screen
Stand on Place du Casino as the light fades and the square fills. The unveiling of the Casino Square illuminations is set for Sunday, November 29, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., and from that evening the city-wide lights stay on through December and into January. The façade of the Casino de Monte-Carlo becomes a projection surface for a light show set to Christmas music, and the square itself holds giant Christmas snow globes whose scenes are renewed each year, alongside an 18-metre Christmas tree. Look beyond the square and you will find the decorations carried across Stade Nautique, Jardin des Boulingrins, the Hôtel de Paris and Quai des États-Unis. The installations are run by Monaco City Hall's Events Department using recyclable LED, biodegradable materials and smart-grid lighting management, part of the Principality's carbon-footprint reduction policy under Prince Albert II.
Ride the Ferris Wheel Above Port Hercule
The Monaco Christmas village settles onto Port Hercule from early December to early January, and it is the largest single concentration of things to do in the season. Chalets line the port, a Ferris wheel turns above them, and there are children's activities throughout. The ice rink at the Christmas market is set with a sea view, which is the detail worth planning your visit around: skate in the late afternoon when the harbour lights come up behind the barrier. Come back after dark for the illuminations reflected on the water.
Follow the Choirs, the Carols and Santa Through the Carré d'Or
Music moves through the Principality in December. Christmas choirs appear at Casino Square and in the Carré d'Or, and musical shows and outdoor concerts take place across Monaco; specific dates for the light shows and choir performances are announced closer to the season, so check locally once you arrive. At Place du Casino, a choir performs "A Christmas Carol." Santa Claus makes an itinerary around Place du Casino, the hotels and the Christmas chalets, with photo opportunities along the route. In the Jardin des Boulingrins, opposite the Casino de Monte-Carlo, you will find a Christmas Carousel and a chalet selling crêpes, churros and hot drinks — the natural place to warm your hands between stops.
Eat, Drink and Shop Along the Christmas Promenade
Christmas chalets run along Avenue de Monte-Carlo as part of the Christmas Promenade Monte-Carlo Shopping, stocked with food and gift ideas. For something seated and slower, book the Christmas teatime in the Salle Belle Époque at the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, served 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 December, 3–6 p.m. Adults are €115, children 6–11 are €60, and children 0–5 are free; capacity is limited and booking is strongly recommended. Marlow's Christmas Afternoon Tea runs on Thursday, December 25, 2025, 3–6 p.m., with hot chocolate or apple juice, gingerbread, Christmas shortbread and sweets — again with limited capacity and booking highly recommended. Note the large Christmas trees inside the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort and Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo if you want a warm, indoor circuit between meals.
Plan Around the Season, Not a Single Night
The season here runs from December into January, which gives you room to build a stay rather than pin everything on one evening. Anchor your trip to the lighting unveiling on November 29 if you want to see the square at its most theatrical, or arrive in the first half of December when the Port Hercule village is in full swing and the teatime seatings at the Hôtel Hermitage are still ahead of you. Because several performance dates are confirmed only shortly before the season, keep the choir and light-show listings open and treat the markets, the rink, the chalets and the decorations as your fixed points. Book the teatimes early — the tables are limited and they fill.
