Step Into Aalborg Zoo's Gentle Halloween, 3–31 October 2026

You arrive at Mølleparkvej 63 on a grey October afternoon and the zoo has been dressed for the season: pumpkins set along the paths, decorations in the trees, and families moving at the slow pace of a place that has decided not to frighten anyone. This is Halloween in its "hyggelig" register — cosy rather than cruel. The month-long programme runs from 3 to 31 October 2026 and includes a nature-themed mission built around extinct species and the wildlife that still lives in North Jutland. The zoo sits close enough to the city centre that you can cycle there, which makes it an easy half-day rather than a full expedition. If you are travelling with small children, come on a weekday outside the autumn school holiday, when the paths are quieter and the pace is entirely yours.

Walk Into a Lit Forest at Fårup Sommerland

Roughly 45 minutes' drive from Aalborg, near Blokhus, Fårup Sommerland runs its Høstfest harvest festival across 2–3 and 9–18 October 2026. The centrepiece is "Lysfald": from 18:30 the forest and the rides are lit with thousands of lights, and the park stays open until 21:30. For children, the highlight is "Den Forheksede Skov" — The Enchanted Forest. Note the timings before you set out: the park opens at 11:00 most days, but at 15:00 on Friday 2 and Friday 9 October. On the final day, Sunday 18 October, it closes at 17:00 and there is no Lysfald. Admission is covered by a regular ticket, an autumn-holiday pass, or a season pass. Lysfald lands best with children from around the age of five.

Run the Dark Paths of Nørresundby on 24 October

On the evening of Saturday 24 October 2026, the Halloween Løbet sets off from Skovvejs Auto on Thistedvej in Nørresundby. You run in darkness, along dark paths, past fire and light effects, with live scare actors stationed along the route. There are four distances — 5.4, 10.8, 16.2 and 21.1 km — and entry is 200 DKK plus a fee. This is not a children's run. It is described as the only event of its kind in North Jutland, which is as good a reason as any to pack your running shoes alongside your costume.

Time Your Trip Around Week 42 — and Know Where to Eat and Wander

Halloween itself falls on Saturday 31 October 2026, in week 44. But the busiest stretch in Aalborg Kommune is the autumn school holiday in week 42, 12–18 October 2026, so book ahead if that window is your plan. During that holiday, Nordkraft and Aalborg Libraries traditionally offer free children's programming with Halloween elements, with programmes published during September — check them before you travel and build an afternoon around whatever is on. The seasonal food and market culture of the city is at its most active in this period, and the harbourfront around Nordkraft is where you will find yourself drifting between the library events and whatever the city has laid on for the week.

Stretch the Trip: Pumpkins at Djurs Sommerland and Legoland

If you have a car and an appetite for more, two of Denmark's big parks sit within day-trip range. Djurs Sommerland, about 1.5 hours' drive away, runs "Magisk Halloween" from 10–18 October 2026 with 40,000 pumpkins, live witches and two Halloween houses — HekseSkolen and GræskarFabrikken. From 10–17 October it stays open until 21:00 for "After Dark", when you ride in darkness. Further out, roughly two hours' drive, Legoland in Billund runs its Halloween from 2 October to 1 November 2026, more cosy than scary, and during the autumn holiday of 10–17 October it too stays open until 21:00. Either makes a natural extension to a North Jutland base.

Start with the dates: decide whether you want the bustle of the autumn holiday in week 42 or the main event on 31 October, then book your accommodation and your Fårup tickets accordingly. Build your days around the zoo's gentle month-long Halloween, an evening under the Lysfald lights, and — if you are so inclined — a dark run through Nørresundby. The rest of Aalborg's October will fill in around you.
