Walk Into the Lantern Glow at Guangzhou Culture Park
By early evening on October 1, the paths of Guangzhou Culture Park in Liwan District are packed shoulder to shoulder, the air carrying the smell of roast chestnuts and sugarcane juice from the surrounding street stalls. This is the Historic Mid-Autumn Lantern Fair, the city's longest-running lantern event, established in the 1950s. For 2026 it runs October 1–8, 18:00–22:00, with 27 large and medium lantern displays and around 1,000 atmospheric lights threaded through the park. Spend a Full Day and Night in Panyu at Lingnan Impression Garden
Lingnan Impression Garden in Panyu District splits its celebration into two halves, and you should plan for both. From 10:00–17:00 (grounds open 9:30–18:00, last tickets 17:00), four Yingge Dance parades wind through the park alongside more than 30 performances — lion dances, Cantonese opera, flash mobs. Stay into the night session, 18:00–21:30 (last tickets 20:30), for molten iron fireworks known as Da Tiehua, fire shows and a Fire Dragon Dance. Eat Your Way Through the Golden Week Calendar
- Chencun Flower World, Shunde, Foshan — the GBA (Shunde) Food Culture Week fills the grounds with 150+ stalls: double-skin milk, Shunde-style fish sashimi, Chencun rice noodles, grilled eel, steamed pork. Ten nights of themed fireworks are preceded by a 20:50 countdown, with Xiangyunsha (gambiered Canton gauze) fashion shows, lion dances, fire acrobatics and live music. - Chuanlord Tourism Leisure Expo Park, Shunde — dragon dances, a "Chang'e Flying to the Moon" show, lantern fairs and water lantern rituals, plus Mid-Autumn moon-worship ceremonies and the Burning Fan Tower tradition. - Songshan Lake Uland, Dongguan — the Golden Autumn Carnival and Sports Season (September 27–October 8) pairs a food festival with lantern making and mooncake baking, so you can eat and then learn to make the season's sweets yourself. No. 33, Qinyuan Road.
Follow the Fireworks, Parades and Stages Across the Delta
Guangzhou is the anchor, but the surrounding cities turn the whole week into one continuous festival. In Jiangmen, the Chikan International Tourism Resort in Kaiping runs 9:00–23:30 from October 1–8 with scheduled theatrical performances, 14 live concerts, a launch of 20,000 balloons, pop-up street performances, molten iron fireworks, fireworks shows, fire pot dances, high-altitude acrobatics, lion dances, Yingge dances and magic shows (No. 18, Didong Road, Chikan Town). At Gulao Waterfront in Heshan, October 1–6 brings boat rides through ancient waterways among egrets, Hanfu costume parades, daily classical dance, live music, magic, martial arts and traditional wedding ceremonies; evening Cantonese classics concerts run October 2–7, 19:30–21:00. In Dongguan, the Matchbox Music Festival takes over the East Lawn at Central Square from October 2–5, 17:00–20:40, with 16 live performances daily by four bands playing rock, folk, pop and indie from Greater Bay Area artists — free entry via QR code, navigating to Guanxiang Yinxiang (莞香印巷).
Know the Shape of the Week
The National Day holiday runs October 1–8, and Mid-Autumn Festival falls on October 6, which is what creates the extended Golden Week. That overlap is why lantern fairs, moon-worship ceremonies and mooncake-making appear alongside the parades and concerts. Evenings are the busiest and the most rewarding — lantern hours cluster around 18:00–22:00, night sessions at Lingnan Impression Garden close at 21:30, and the Shunde food week fireworks come late, after a 20:50 countdown. Plan your days around daytime parades and your nights around fire and light.
Start with your dates: October 1–8, with October 6 as the Mid-Autumn centerpiece. Book around Guangzhou or Panyu if you want the lantern fair and Lingnan Impression Garden within easy reach, and treat Shunde, Kaiping, Heshan and Dongguan as day trips or overnights along the rail and road network.
