Two Quieter Markets Worth the Walk

- Noël aux Bastions — in the Parc des Bastions, near the old town. A separate Christmas village of chalets with a free open-air ice rink that stays open past Christmas, into February. Quieter and family-oriented compared with the lakefront.
- Marché de Noël de Carouge — in the Carouge district, among Mediterranean-style streets. A long-running artisan market held over a December weekend, with more than a hundred stalls and a reputation for local craftwork in a historic setting.
Both reward a daytime visit, and the Bastions rink in particular gives you something to do in Geneva on the cold days either side of the holiday itself.
Getting There and Getting Warm
Quai du Mont-Blanc is walkable from Geneva Cornavin train station and well served by public transport, so you can base yourself centrally and reach the market on foot or by tram. If you are staying in official Geneva accommodation, you receive the free Geneva Transport Card for buses and trams — carry it, and the whole city opens up without a ticket machine.
