Fireworks Over the Christmas Market on Bank Street
At Aberdeen Plaza, 1015 Bank St, the Ottawa Christmas Market hosts its first-ever New Year's Eve event, running from noon to midnight. The market's stalls stay lit through the evening, and at 11:55 p.m. the fireworks begin, carrying the crowd through to 12:05 a.m. Admission is free. This is the city's most family-friendly countdown: you can arrive early, eat your way through the vendors, and still be standing outside when the sky goes up.
Skate, Glow, and Walk the Lights
Ottawa's New Year's Eve is built around cold air and warm light. Bundle up and pick your format:
- Magic of Lights at Wesley Clover Parks, 411 Corkstown Rd, Nepean, runs 5–10 p.m. — a drive-through display that works as well with kids in the back seat as it does as a slow, quiet start to the night.
- Christmas Lights Across Canada spreads across the city, so any downtown walk after dark puts you inside the display.
- Alight at Night at Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg runs 5–9 p.m. — a longer haul, but a full evening's worth of lit village streets if you want to make a day of it.
- Outdoor skating is weather dependent: the RiverOak Skating Trail in Metcalfe and the Countryside Adventures Skating Trail in Moose Creek are the two to check if the ice holds.

Craft Beer Market at 975 Bank St does a three-course prix fixe dinner and countdown party from 6 p.m., with tickets from $20 to $65.99.
Comedy, Costumes, and a 1920s Ballroom on Elgin
For an adults-only night, the city spreads its options across the map. The Annual NYE Comedy Night at the Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Blvd, starts at 9 p.m. at $60. Yuk Yuk's puts comedian Graham Kay on stage at Biagios, 1394 Richmond Rd, with 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows — $45–$55 for the show alone, $140–$155 with dinner. The Bootlegger's Ball '26 takes over the Manor Lounge at 292-A Elgin St from 7 p.m., with cocktails, dinner, dancing and a Canadian Club speakeasy; 1920s attire is encouraged, and tickets run $19–$50. The Dueling Magicians performs at The Prescott, 379 Preston St, at 7 and 9 p.m. for $38.99–$48.99 plus fees. If you want to dance into the new year, the 80's NYE Dance Party with The Start runs 8:30 p.m.–2 a.m. at Overflow Brewing Company, 2477 Kaladar Ave, at $85, and the NYE Disco Bash at The Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray St, starts at 8 p.m. for $40–$45.
Ceilidh, Casino, and the ByWard Market Crawl
The Free Hogmanay Ceilidh at the Infinity Convention Centre, 2901 Gibford Drive, runs 5 p.m.–1 a.m. with Scottish ceilidh dancing and an indoor street truck — $85 general admission, free for children under 12. Across the river, the Casino du Lac-Leamy NYE Party in Gatineau opens from 4 p.m. at various prices. All that Glitters at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, 4837 Albion Rd, starts at 10:30 p.m. with band Alter Ego and 1,000 prize balloons at midnight, from $25. In the ByWard Market, Lowertown Brewery is the cheapest door on the list at $8.79, with Sky Lounge at 73 York St ($19.56+), Lookout Bar & Nightclub at 41 York St ($22.63), The Show Ottawa at 104 Clarence St ($22.60+), Tomo at 109 Clarence St ($12.19+) and Back to Brooklyn on Clarence St ($117.42+) all within a few minutes' walk of each other. OC Transpo is free after 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve, sponsored by Safer Roads Ottawa and MADD Ottawa and Area — the single most useful fact for planning your night, because it means you can leave the car and move between the market, dinner and a late venue without negotiating parking. If you're travelling with kids, the Bell Capital Cup — the 25th annual youth hockey tournament, with more than 280 teams from Canada, the USA, Hong Kong, Austria, Japan, Korea and Kazakhstan — plays at various venues on December 31. OttawaMusicals stages Hansel and Gretel Go West at 2 p.m. at the Irving Greenberg Theatre (GCTC), 1233 Wellington St W, for $37–$60 plus fees. And if you'd rather not choose between dinner and dancing, NYE @ Exit Lounge at 1101 Baxter Rd bundles a Roll & Dine dinner with rink admission, a Glam & Glow gourmet evening and a Family VIP package with dual countdowns.
