The city's Winter Wonders (Plaisirs d'Hiver) market usually runs from late November to early January — for 2026/2027, 27 November to 3 January — so New Year's Day falls inside it. Stalls generally open daily from 12:00 to 22:00, though they close at 18:00 on 24 and 31 December; the Grand Place sound-and-light show is typically cancelled on 31 December, so plan to catch it on another evening of your stay. Wander the festive trail through the Sainte-Catherine district and on to the Bourse, Place de Brouckère and the Fish Market. Entry to the market is free; the Ferris wheel and ice rink may charge extra. On Grand Place itself, the Christmas tree and illuminations stay up into the run of the market, so a daytime walk on 1 January still has the full winter dressing.
Where the Evening Goes After the Fireworks
Clubs, concert halls and restaurants publish their own New Year programmes closer to the date, so check listings in December rather than expecting a single city-wide schedule. Paid parties, club nights and gala dinners have recently run roughly €25–90, with premium dinners higher; buying club tickets in advance is the sensible move. The Heysel plateau is the family-friendly gathering area if you're with children, while the centre — around Gare Centrale, De Brouckère or Bourse — puts you within walking distance of the market trail and the indoor venues. Because the market closes at 18:00 on 31 December but runs normal hours on 1 January, the first day of the year is a good one for a slow circuit of the stalls rather than a rushed New Year's Eve.
