Fireworks Over the Corniche at Midnight
You step onto the Abu Dhabi Corniche as the heat finally lets go of the day, and the whole waterfront is moving. Families spread blankets on the sand at A'l Bahar, vendors work the crowd, and every few hundred metres a stage throws light across the water. The smell of grilled meat and cardamom coffee drifts from the stalls, and somewhere behind you a DJ is testing the sound system for the last set of the year. This is New Year's Eve in the capital: not one party but a dozen, strung along the coast and out into the desert, all counting down to the same midnight.
Fireworks are the fixed point of the night. The beachfront celebrations at Marsana East Beach on Hudayriyat Island and the Corniche programming both build toward a midnight display, and Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental pairs its own fireworks with a formal dinner and an after-party. If you want the sky in front of you and sand under your feet, Hudayriyat is the straightforward choice; if you want the city skyline reflected in the water, claim a spot on the Corniche early.
Concerts and Stages Across the City
The 31 December 2025 programming — marketed as New Year's Eve 2026 — is unusually stacked, with headline acts spread across the island and the mainland. Book ahead; these are ticketed events with confirmed timings, and the biggest names will not last.
- Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental — John Legend performs live at 8:00 pm on the open-air terrace, followed by a formal dinner, midnight fireworks and a DJ after-party. Tickets from AED 3,500.
- Saadiyat Nights, Saadiyat Island — an open-air double bill: Alicia Keys at 5:00 pm, Ricky Martin at 7:00 pm. Tickets from AED 308.
- MOTN Festival, Abu Dhabi Corniche (A'l Bahar) — Ramy Sabry live at 7:00 pm. Tickets from AED 225.
- Space42 Arena — Nassif Zeytoun and Haifa Wehbe share a stage, doors open before a 7:30 pm start, with dining and drinks available. Tickets from AED 495.
- Liwa Village Grand Arena — out near Moreeb Dune, the desert celebration begins at 8:30 pm with Khalid Abdulrahman, Fouad Abdelwahed, Aseel Hameem and Hamad Alameri. Tickets from AED 145.
- Rosewood Abu Dhabi — a Masquerade Ball from 9:00 pm with live music from The GIPSY's band, DJ Keith Dobbs, Milan on Sax and Ghaith on percussion. Tickets from AED 199.
Notice the shape of the evening: the Saadiyat sets start in late afternoon and the arena shows begin before 8:00 pm, so you can realistically pair an early concert with a late dinner and still be standing when the fireworks go up.
Sand, Sea and a Fire Show on Hudayriyat
If you would rather not sit at a table all night, head for Marsana East Beach on Hudayriyat Island. The public beachfront event opens at 8:00 pm with an international DJ, live dance performances and fire shows, plus a kids' zone and direct beach access. Tickets start at AED 100 — the most accessible entry point on the night — and the whole thing rolls into midnight fireworks over the water. Bring a layer for the small hours; the sea breeze on Hudayriyat is cooler than the city centre once the sun is long gone.
Where to Eat and How to Time the Night
Dining on New Year's Eve in Abu Dhabi splits into two reliable modes. The hotel venues — Emirates Palace, Rosewood and the Space42 Arena show — fold dinner and drinks into the ticket, which is the simplest way to avoid scrambling for a table at 10:00 pm. The Corniche and beachfront events leave you free to graze: the A'l Bahar stretch and the surrounding Corniche stalls are where you will find the grilled skewers, karak and festival snacks that fuel the crowd between sets.
Build the evening in layers. Start with an early set — Alicia Keys at 5:00 pm on Saadiyat is the earliest major booking — move to dinner, then choose your midnight vantage point. Traffic along the Corniche and the bridges to the islands tightens sharply as the night goes on, so plan to arrive at your final location well before 11:00 pm and stay put. The desert option at Liwa is a different proposition entirely: it is a long drive out to Moreeb Dune, so treat it as the whole night rather than one stop on a circuit.
Beyond the Countdown
The city does not pack up at 12:01 am. The Emirates Palace after-party keeps the terrace going, and the beachfront events on Hudayriyat run late with the DJ and dance performances. If you are staying through 1 January, use the quiet morning to walk the Corniche while it is empty, or make the trip out to Liwa in daylight — the dune country around Moreeb looks nothing like the version you saw under stage lights.
Tickets for the headline concerts and hotel balls will define your night, so decide first whether you want a seat, a stage or a stretch of sand, then book accordingly. Everything else — the fireworks, the crowds, the food along the water — happens whether you plan for it or not.
